What is the value of │x + 7│?
(1) │x + 3│= 14
(2) (x + 2)^2 = 169

This is an easy question, but I'm still confused with the OA.

(1) x could be 11 or -17 ==> value of │x + 7│ could be 18 or 10. Insufficient
(2) 169 = +-(13) ^2 so 13 = x+2 or -13 = x + 2 ==> x = 11 or x = -15 ==> │x + 7│ = 18 or 8. Insufficient

(1) + (2) x = 11 and │x + 7│ = 18

Sorry guys I chose 'C' as well, but the answer given is 'D'.
That's why I'm confused.
Can 'x' be different in 1) and 2)?
For instance in 1) x = -17, in 2) -15?
As I know in GMAT x must be the same in both answer choices.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Both statements give us 3 different values for n.
may be there was a mistake in the question stem.

Must be but sometimes it is not the same))
I came across such DS the x was different

What is the source of the question? With two different values for │x + 7│ in I and II both, it is difficult to arrive at D. Unless the question has a typo, the answer should be C.
