I believe it's C
z^2< 49
ok, that tells me that z is positive or negative 7, insufficient

z < 1/z

the only way this would happen is if z is a fraction or z is a negative number....but it could be any of the numbers that fit this criteria, insufficient

Both Combined works- -7 is the only number that meets both critieria...think of a number line....-7 is way lower (further to the left than -1/7 is)

stmt 1) z = +/- 7 not suff
stmt 2) 1/z > z is possible if z is any proper fraction or if z is any negative integer less than -1. Not suff

1) & 2) we get -7 --> only number for which 1 and 2 holds

C it is

What is the value of Z?

1) z^2 =49

z = 7 or -7 Insuff

2) z< 1/z

there are lots of values which statisfy this so Insuff

taking together ....proves that 49<1 wrong ....

hence E

cool_jonny009, never make a mistake of ignoring sign in inequalities

if z < 1/z we cannot say z^2 < 1, what id z is -ve?
