This is a DS question from the official guide 12th
edition, page 290 Q2, this seemed a really easy question, but I got it wrong and the worst part is I dont understand the explanation. Why statement 1 alone is not sufficient? it seems to be providing the number we are been asked for. What am I missing? could someone explain this?
I am writing the question for people ..!
What percent of a group of people are women with red hair?
(1) Of the women in the group, 5 percent have red hair.
(2) Of the men in the group, 10 percent have red hair.
In order to solve this question we need to know the total number of people in the group and then the number of women with red hair, amongst them.
St 1- Insufficient- It just says number of women with red hair amongst women ( NOT the whole group )
St2 - Insufficient - Doesn't mention anything about the women, with red hair
Together also Insufficient , for eg if the total of people are 100 and say 60 women and 40 men,
Then from 1 we know 5 % have red hair which means women with red hair = 3, which gives the percent of women with red hair in the group as 3 %
but now say women were 40 and men 60, then this percentage changes from 3 to 2 ( 5 % of 40 )
We have different answers hence both are also insufficient.
I hope this help ..!
