I got a 690 this past weekend, wasn't thrilled. Breakdown was 85%V, 79%Q. I have a MA degree in Econ from NYU, and also BA in same. GPAs were 3.0, 3.4 respectively. Do you think that re-taking the GMAT will make a difference? Columbia is my top choice, but I am hearing that they are so GMAT centric compared to everyone else. Is this valid? Thanks!

The low end of Columbia's 80% range of accepted applicants is 670. So, you've crossed that threshold. Is Columbia more picky about the GMAT, well it's low high threshold would indicate that it probably is, but naturally we don't know all of the reasons for that threshold.

So, if the question is, can you get in with 690, then yes most certainly you can. However, if you're not satisfied with your score and causes you anxiety, then it's not crazy to give it another go, assuming you have the motivation. Nontheless, a 690 is a very solid score for any school and most applicants would probably move forward, especially given that your split is solid.
