Scott/Guys,

I took my GMAT today and scored 710 M51 V33. Not very happy with my verbal score. Should i retake GMAT?

Background:

BS from IITD (The best BS school in India)
1 year of exp. in manfacturing and 7 years in IT.
Currently working for Microsoft, US.

Not sure sure this is enough to get through the very elite schools, so i might spend few more years in industry and rise in management ladder before applying to any school.

Any thoughts?

I actually think that your GMAT score is fine, although I worry about your ability to stand out compared to so many other identical-looking tech applicants from India. If you're looking at U.S. schools, they're interested in your leadership experiences and activities that make you unique more than they're concerned about your GMAT score. Do you have extracurricular activities that are important to you?

If you're thinking of waiting several more years before you apply, my advice is to try and get involved in something else outside of work, just to show that you have outside interests. But, it needs to be something that you truly care about. Hopefully something comes to mind!
