What should I focus on to stand out come application time

I recently graduated with a BS in Chemical Engineering from Ohio State with a Summa Cum Laude distinction (3.97/4.00 GPA overall) and accepted a job with Deloitte in Tech Consulting. Given Deloitte's reimbursement program I am very interested in obtaining an MBA especially from a top 5 program. I plan on applying in 2-3 years.
I obviously still haven't taken the GMAT but at one point a few years ago I did a little self-study and based on the official CBTs I scored around 700 without much problem, hopefully with studying I can range around 730+.
Obviously the most important thing from me right now is to focus on my career and achieve the most success I can from that side, but I would like to learn more about other factors that will help my application stand out such as leadership, volunteerism, and ect. and how to go about achieving these goals from anyone with positive experiences in the application process.
I appreciate the input.

You have an exceptional GPA and if you can score above 720 in GMAT, you will have a very good chance at top 5 business schools. The next and the most important part of your profile is your work experience and extra-curriculars. You have to work on these in the next 2-3 years. Work hard and try to get promotions at your work place. Try to be an integral part of big projects. Most importantly, you need to have good leadership experience under your belt. Involve yourself in extra-curriculars and try to gain leadership experience in them. Volunteering does not help a lot. Overall you need to do things which can make your application stand out. Research a lot on post-mba careers and decide on a post-mba goals for yourself. Try to work in the direction of your goals before applying. If you can do all this, then you stand a very good chance at top 5 programs in the US.
