What would be right career move for B School? [#permalink]
21 Aug 2008, 17:03
Hello,
I am contemplating switching jobs but I need some advice on what would be best for B School..
I am female, would be about 26 by the time B School rolls around, engineering undergrad from an Ivy League school. I work at a major software company as a PM and I have been pretty successful so far (promotion every year and excellent reviews). I lead a team of about ten people. I am also the company representative to a worldwide tech committee (of about 15 people in all).
If I stay at my job I will see increase in scope, responsibility and visibility. For instance, I would be giving talks at huge conferences and attending important tech meetings.
If I make a lateral move, I would see consistent fast career growth in terms of title and career. I would not get as much visibility, and of course I would lose my position on the committee.
If I switch roles to product strategy/planning then I would see more of the business and strategy side and move away from engineering. I would be closer to the customer.
OR I could move to a completely different city and company (UK? China?)
My goal is Stanford. Failing that Harvard. What do these schools value more? Fast career growth? Impact? Different experiences?
