Re: What would you choose over an MBA? [#permalink]

seriously, I hadnt thought about this until now because I have become just too involved in this whole process and have conditioned my thinking so much to going to school this fall that I seriously dont know what would stop me from going to school. Like someone said here maybe somthing like a big lottery!!!!!! I guess I am so much into this process now that its difficult for me to return from this although I think anything to do with family would stop me.

About the CEO talk. I saw another thread here talking about how many grads from a given school become CEOs, and they (at first) forgot to prorate for class size. So lets prorate here! No, getting a masters won't make you become a CEO. But, it certainly doesn't hurt. IF we go with the masters number - (which I like since the MBA will be my 2nd masters.... ) 62% of CEOs have masters or higher... but only 8.9% of the population achieved this level of education.. so getting this means (numerically) you have about 62/8.9 = 6.99 times the chance of someone without a masters degree of becoming a CEO. (I used US stats.. I know, how US-centric of me.. its cool though, cause I am just BSing on a friday morning anyhow! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Educationa ... ted_States) On a side note, i found the unemployment rates by education (on the wiki page) fascinating.

THAAATs why you go to b school, so you can find that girl that will make six figures post-MBA and has some topics to discuss. (Dartmouth Medical beware... hahah) Kellogg should have been your choice..I just read they have A&F models there... ok hold up a sec, A&F models?? details please!

MBA is not just about getting a cool job, and money (= women, power, whatever else). You gotta think about it holistically. While there are people at b-schools who are just getting their tickets stamped, most of the people I talked with were there for an experience of transition and learning. Transition includes improving yourself, your family, your job, your world outlook, your network. It also includes helping others improve (before and after MBA). Learning is also a very wide term, and in case with the MBA degree at a good school, it is just as wide as it gets. Substituting all of these will take not just one, but many experiences that will have to be equally meaningful and positively impactful both on self and others.

How many associates are there with the big 3 that don't have MBAs and that didn't start work there as an analyst? I'm also interested in getting into consulting. But between an MBA and starting off as an associate, I'll probably lean towards the MBA as I would like to learn what i can at school before moving into the industry. Maybe it because I realize my undergrad just didn't teach me enough.

This post received KUDOS
If I won the lottery I would actually do the MBA even more. But with an even wider grin on my face 24/7.

that is why I want an MBa.. MBA = $¥ and pounds = hot women (mostly gold diggers, but who cares)
I would not do an MBA, if I seriously got a job from lonely planet asking me to travel all around the world.. I will say it

I was going to answer that if I got so much money I never needed to work, i could spend my life traveling independently and writing about it, or working with charity organizations, and that I wouldn't need the MBA. But then I thought, suppose I DO become a gazillionaire, get to travel for 10 years, and then decide to set up something in that field? Or suppose I want to get involved with big charity organizations on a higher level, or set something up myself? I'd need that MBA anyway...
