Wheels after b-school [#permalink]
20 Apr 2007, 20:13
Rather presumptuous topic, but why not. Suppose you get your dream offer with a 50K signing bonus and your student loans are under control, what would be your ideal set of wheels after b-school? My wife would probably win as she always does and convince me to buy a prius or toyota sedan, but it sure would be nice to redline that new 500hp V-10 Lexus LF-A.

BMW 1200GS. Most versatile bike ever. And quite expensive, too (for my current budget, at least).

If we are talking dream car I would say an Aston Martin Vanquish S...having seen a few in person they are absolutely stunning and a lot more unique than a Ferrari or Lamborghini. Chances of affording a 250K car are pretty slim, unless I lived in it. Maybe someday but still I dont know if I could ever justify that unless I was making an insane amount of money or won the powerball.
A more attainable car would be an Audi RS4 or S6 or BMW M3 which would be in the mid 70k range. Since my wife will probably be supporting me while I am in school, she will probably get first dibs at a nice car, the S4 wagon is her dream car which would be fun little sleeper.

That's a cool looking Lexus. At first glance, I actually thought it was the new Aston Martin V8. At around $120k seems like a pretty sweet deal - and the target market is Porsche owners so I guess I'm exactly the type of buyer they are looking for. Since I won't be accumulating any additional debt, maybe...
How much is the Lexus going to sell for?

No official price has been published yet. The Inside Line interviewed a sales rep from Lexus and was quoted about $100K. The car will be introduced to the US market this fall.
The LF-A outperforms the Aston Martin in at least three out of four categories, including acceleration, top speed, and cornering. Not too shabby for a Toyota. Nevertheless, I still think the V8 Vantage has much more aesthetic appeal.

Seems like there will be quite a few options for spending $100k when we graduate. Time to start polishing up those job search & interview skills.

If it has all 4 hubcaps and an exhaust system with only the original number of intended holes in it and can be counted on to go at least 1000 miles without the assistance of a tow truck, I would consider it a luxury car.
When your standards are this low, it is hard to be disappointed.
