A - out, past continuous is not correct.

D - placement of "which", seems the cost of NYC is a 100 bucks
E- out - the canal did not cost a 100 bucks..

Will go with B

I'll have to go with C here. Clear and concise. The use of the semi colon introduces a new clause.

I do like A. IMO it'clear and concise. Using the passive voice is not redundant and just puts more attention to actions. the pattern when... it took .... but when ... it took.... Nice and speakable IMHO 8-)

A- No clear reference to "it"
B- After semicolon there is no independent clause
C- I think Correct answer (Independant clause after semicolon)
D- Which cost 100$, shows wrong reference to New york city
E- unnecessary participle and ing forms are used.

B, C and D have semicolon. The following clause should be independent however in all these options the clauses are dependent.
E is using wrong tense.
IMO A.

Sunny, in B "it" does not have a clear referrant.

The OA is C.

Here is my attempt to explain.
This is a song SC and the errors are not very obvious. On the exam day this is how I would approach:
1,.Scan thru the answer choice. Observe it is a 2:3 type - 3 have semicolons , 2 dont
so its between B,C,D
2. Now look for errors in B,C,D
D. In 1825, before opening the Erie Canal, to move a ton of wheat took three weeks
from Buffalo to New York City, which cost $100; moving it on the canal
-Eliminate D

B. Moving a ton of wheat from Buffalo to New York City before the opening of the
Erie Canal in 1825, it took three weeks and cost $100; using the canal, it
- its not clear if it is pointing to wheat , Buffalo, NYC or canal.

C -> remains.

WHen in time crunch I use this method and most of the times my answers are correct.
