ans is C
1. underlined part is parallel to the the rest of the sentence 2. B is parallel but: "moving wheat before opening canal, it took 3 weeks" -- wrong construction

for me the use of ; is difficult. I think it should be used to separate two grammatically independent sentences, which I think can be applied in this case.
maybe anyone can give more information about ";"?
