when a truck travels at 60 miles per hour, it uses 30% more gasoline to travel any distance that it does when it travels at 50 miles per hour. the truck can travel 20 miles on a gallon of gas if it is traveling at 50 miles per hour.the truck has only 10 gallons of gas and is 160 miles from its destination. it takes 20min for the truck to stop for gas. how long will it take the truck to reach its final destination if the truck is driven at 60 miles per hour.

a 160min
b 180min
c 190min
d 192min

the truck needs 2h and 4/6h( or 160 min in total) to pass 160m at 60 mph. If it takes 20 min to refill then the truck will need 180 min. or B)

I would add that he needs 10.4 gallons so 10 aren't sufficient and he must stop...

"B".

MPG when traveling at 60...20/1.3.....for 60 miles he needs 10.4G....so he has to make a stop.....total time = 20 + (160 * 60)/60 = 180 mins

Can someone tell me if my reasoning is correct

for 106 miles it takes 156 minutes (160/60=2.6 i.e. 60 min + 60 min + 36 min).

10 gallons not good enough as 30 % reductions applies and so one stop over and hence 156 min+20 min =176 min ~ 180 min.

B it is .
besides, we don t know what is the capacity of the tank, wether it will have to stop once, twice or three times....
tricky questions and not very clear. I doubt to see such question in GMAT anyway

i too get a B.
8 gallons if 50 miles/hr
1.30 * 8= 10.4 gallons if 60 miles/hr
that would in turn mean in 2 hrs i.e 120 minutes he would cover 120 miles . still need to refill so he would need 20 minutes at a minimum and has 40 miles left which would take him 40 minutes. so in all he would need 120+20+40= 180 minutes.
