When and where to apply? [#permalink] New post 08 Jun 2005, 14:35
Hi,

Here's a brief rundown of my portfolio:

undergrad: UCLA computer sci and eng (GPA 3.5)
work experience: IBM, will be 4 years come 2006 (the year I plan to go to b-school)
software engineer w/ project management responsibilities

extracurricular activities: 2 seasons as head coach of YMCA youth basketball team, founding board member (vice president) of educational non-profit organization
GMAT: 720 (48 Q, 39V)

I want to go to a business school strong in entrepreneurship. Does Kelogg have a good entrepreneurship program or is it primarily geared towards management? Also, do I have a chance at schools like Wharton? Could you recommend other schools that would be worth applying to?

Finally, when should I start the application process (organizing essays, etc) if I want to apply for Round 1? Thank you so much, I appreciate any advice you can provide.

hi,
your profile is good.If you are thinking about enterpreneurship, Stanford and Wharton are quite good.If you are planning to apply by Round1, i would advice start preparing your application by next month of maximum by August because writing essays and reviewing them it takes time.It also take time for your recommenders to fill in your recommendation and round 1 usuallly ends by end of October of all the major B-schools.
With your stats you can certaily apply in Wharton as your academic stats are equivalent to the averege whartobn class
No idea about Kellogs entrepreneurship program, i think its good for management and finance

regards

Scott may be able to speak to the strength of Kellogg's entrepreneurship program better than I, but yes they do have a good program.

In addition to the other schools mentioned, you may want to take a look at Sloan (MIT) and Harvard.

YEs, it sounds like you're a strong candidate. Glad to hear you're starting early. I'd recommend getting started on essays in July or early August if you want to make first round.
