I've had it in mind for a few years as a possibility. I bought the OG about two and a half years ago, and flipped through it, read some school websites, didn't get that excited about it.

But then this past summer I started doing research again and for some reason this time everything crystallized and I had a burning drive to apply.

Just curious how everyone else made the decision.

The poll options probably don't do a good job of capturing all the possibilities but its all I can think of right now.

I knew since undergrad that I would eventually go, but it sort of fell off my radar for a few years until about 2-3 years ago.

Since high school. I sat down with my current boss my first month of work after college and told him I was going to be leaving in 4 years for business school. I told him if that was an issue, I could go work somewhere else.

TexasGuy - You serious? What sort of job do you have that you would need to give 4 year's notice of resignation?

It wasn't about resigning. I wanted to make my career goals clear to my boss so we could work together to achieve them. As an entry level engineer, I made it clear to him that I was working hard to be given increased management responsibility in order to be qualified for MBA admission.

He did his part by giving me unusual responsibly for an engineer as junior as I was.

I did my part by bringing projects on early and under budget and by trailblazing process improvements, which made him look good to his management.

Back in '02 I was offered a position abroad (somewhere in Africa) for 3 years. One of the main reasons for accepting the position, was that I'd plan to go for an MBA right after that. Then I could not prepare properly for GMAT in '05 so it slip till this year.

TexasGuy,

I wish I was that together when I was getting out of college, took me a couple of years to figure out what I wanted to do. Congrats on the Sloan admit, your plan obviously worked out very well!
