Can someone please share the process/method of solving an absolute equation of this sort?
Q: when is absolute(x-4) equal to 4-x ?
I realize that one can try positive/negative/fractional values and see what fits the criteria, but I am hoping for a more methodical approach that shows the underlying logic.

|x-4| = 4-x

as |x-4| > 0 ==>|x-4| = 4-x will when 4>x

I get (x-4)>0 because absolute(x-4) is always positive or equal to zero.

thus, (x-4) = (4-x)
which gives me x=4
Since we concluded that (x-4) must be > 0,
than shouldn't x>4 be the solution?

p.s. thanks for sharing the link on abs val equations....i found it some what helpful...altho i have to admit it did raise some new Qs in my head.

thanx guys!
