Do schools look at the application and say "well we like you as a candidate but you need higher GMAT scores" and then allow me to take them again? Do schools look negatively at scoring lower on subsequent attempts or do they just take the highest score?

Schools look at the application holistically and place your GMAT score in the context of your entire application. They will weigh your GMAT score given your GPA. They will also look to see if the score is balanced or if you were particularly weak in that area and if there is evidence of a general weakness or just a bad test day. AMong the factors you shoudl consider: Is this the first time you took the test,? do you think you can improve it? Are you willing to apply third round or next fall?
So without knowing the school or more about you, it is very difficult to say whether it makes sense for you to apply with your current score to take it again. Our article "
