When positive integer x is divided by positive integer y, the remainder is 9. If x/y = 96.12, what is the value of y?
A. 96
B. 75
C. 48
D. 25
E. 12

0.12 y =9
thus y=75

From question stem, x=ky+9....(A)
and
x/y =96.12

hence, x=96 y+0.12 y....(B)
Comparing A and b

0.12y=9
y=75

x = qy + 9

We also know x/y = 96.12, so x = 96.12y

96.12y = qy + 9

96.12y - 9 = qy

q = 96.12 - 9/y

q is an integer, so 9/y must yield x.12 in order to cancel the .12 in 96. Only B fits the bill.
