x /y = 96.12

can be written as 96 + 12/100
the remainder is 9, the fraction part of x/y = 9/y

9/y = 12/100

y = 75

answer B.

Can u pls explain,how can we compare x/y to 9/y??
Thanx

i'mnot saying x/y = 9/y

i said fraction part of x/y = 9/y

96.12 can be divided into two parts integer part is 96 and fractional part is 12/100 -------------(1)

when x is divided by y, remainder is 9. it means x can be written as x = ky + 9, wher k is an integer.
we can write this as x/y = k + 9/y, where 9/y is the fraction part ---------------- (2)

from (1) and (2)
12/100 = 9/y
