A and B are discarded since the sentence is parallel in the form -
" a microbe ... might escape and kill...."
in d - who would have is wordy and kind of chnages hte meaning of the sentence.
e-- is close, but with is inappropriate

In A & B, it doesn't point to the right referent ie. the micro.
Among C, D & E, D sounds righ by the use of 'would have'

Only choices left that are correct are D and E
A and B are out because of parallelism
c is out - because there might be a microbe, so need future perfect (would have)
E distorts the meaning. E says the microbe will kill humans with no natural defence against it. is it humans or microbe who has no natural defence against microbe
