Whenever I see the following I feel confused:

Correct: I slept like a baby.
Incorrect: I slept as a baby.

I know 'like' is for nouns and 'as' is for verb or actions.
But if I consider for the above as : "I slept like a baby does."
Then am I not comparing actions. Say for: "I eat as a baby eats."
Then should I be using 'like'. Why??
