Whenever it is rainy, Janet goes to the mall. Therefore, it must be rainy, because Janet just left for the mall.
Which of the following exhibits a parallel pattern of reasoning as the argument above?
(A) Everyone who is crazy about U2 went to the concert. Since Stacy did not go to the concert, she must not be crazy about U2.
(B) Joe's Vinyl Shop shows a profit whenever the local stadium hires extra workers. Because the stadium has recently hired extra workers, Joe's Vinyl Shop will show a profit.
(C) Cookies To Go has always endured an annual loss whenever the S&P 500 falls more than 15% in the preceeding quarter. The company had an annual loss this year. Therefore, the S&P must have fallen more than 15% in the preceeding quarter.
(D) Whenever they eat too much candy, little children become hyper and very hard to control. Since little Cameron is behaving very well, she must not have eaten too much candy.

I think D follow the pattern closest. You want to apply an answer that follow the logic of the first example and this matches closest.

(C) and (E) looks close to me.
I will choose (C) as (E) doesnt clearly mention the %age discount coupons received in the mail (can be less ormore).
(C) for me.

Will go with C.
The pattern is If A then B. Hence if B, then A
THe pattern of C and E are matching.
But in E "in the mail", throws away the advantage

Yeah C was my choice.
Reason being that the structure of the stem is 'If Event X occurs, then Event Y occurs. Since Event Y has occured, Event X must have occured. C fits this structure.
So are we decided that this is OA? Or do we have dissenting voices

I think structure for this one is
if A then B. if not A then not B.
Because J can go to mall even if it is not rainy, but if it is rainy then J goes to mall.
Hence i go with A.

still would go for E
whereas in C it is "if X happens, Y happens and since Y happened, it must have been caused by X" in E it is "when it is X, Y happens, since Y happened it must be X", which is closer to the logic in the original sentence.

JC Penney gives away coupons - but not specified how. That x got coupons in the mail does not prove that JC Penney has sent them. Also, its not specified if they are 20% discount coupons.

it was b/w C and E for me... and in a rush I would probably have chosen E, but I completely agree with the fact that it isn't known that the received coupons were indeed 20%! this is a strong fact to eliminate E!!!
Btw... I would not have chosen A based on the fact that Stacy isn't crazy about U2, when everyone else is (there must be something wrong with her... ha-ha  )
