3. Whenever it is rainy, Janet goes to the mall. Therefore, it must be rainy, because Janet just left for the mall.
Which of the following exhibits a parallel pattern of reasoning as the argument above?
(A) Everyone who is crazy about U2 went to the concert. Since Stacy did not go to the concert, she must not be crazy about U2.
(B) Joe's Vinyl Shop shows a profit whenever the local stadium hires extra workers. Because the stadium has recently hired extra workers, Joe's Vinyl Shop will show a profit.
(C) Cookies To Go has always endured an annual loss whenever the S&P 500 falls more than 15% in the preceeding quarter. The company had an annual loss this year. Therefore, the S&P must have fallen more than 15% in the preceeding quarter.
(D) Whenever they eat too much candy, little children become hyper and very hard to control. Since little Cameron is behaving very well, she must not have eaten too much candy.
(E) Every Thanksgiving, JC Penney gives away 20% discount coupons. I just got JC Penney disocunt coupons in the mail. Therefore, it must be Thanksgiving.

B.
Logic in the argument is A => B therefore B => A
Option B follows the same logic.

Yeah, C makes sense, now that I think of it.
E can't be correct because the comparision is not apple to apple. E is comparing 20% discount coupons to a discount coupons ( But not saying whether it is 20% discount coupon or not ).

C is correct. We need to find parallel for "If A then B,B happned hence A must be the reason".But option B says something like "If A then B,A happned hence B must be the reason". In option B , A = local stadium hires extra workers and B=Joe's Vinyl Shop shows a profit. In option C, A = S&P 500 falls more than 15% in the preceeding quarter and B = Cookies To Go has always endured an annual loss.

what helped me was to write out the relationship...then check the answers...

Has to be C.
argument is:
1.If X n then Y
2.If Y then X.
Only C follows that structure.
B is If
1.X, then Y
2.X, so Y.
