Where to apply ? Please help [#permalink]
19 Jul 2010, 06:11
Hey,
I need some help deciding where to apply, and where would I have a good shoot of getting accepted. Coming from Eastern Europe, a "no name school" would not help me too much in my future jobs ... I am interested in macroeconomics and national economic public policy.
GPA: 3.8 (business major, top 50 US national ) GMAT:760 Experience: 2 years at the start of the program (Government in East. Europe, economics oriented) some leadership in college and some political/leadership extracurrics after college
I am currently considering Yale, Chicago and NYU ... USC as safety?
Any suggestions ?

Any suggestions ? Serbiano, Good choices. I suggest you also consider Harvard, Stanford, and Wharton. Georgetown might be a better safety considering your interests. Best, Linda

Best, Linda Hey Linda, thank for the encourangement to apply to top schools, I am definetly considering applying to at least one of them! Do you think that my government background in small country would be a disadvatage for the top b-schools? Also, besides my current supervisor, who do you recommend I ask for 2nd and 3rd letter of rec? I will certainly look in G-Town MBA! Thanks a lot!

It's nice to be able to be encouraging sometimes. Government background in and of itself is not a disadvantage. It might actually be a diversity element and a plus. However, what really counts is what you accomplished. If you were simply a paper-pushing bureaucrat, then it's a negative. If you had impact, improved something, or made a contribution to your department, office, or country, it's a plus. Regarding a second supervisor, you could ask a previous supervisor or perhaps someone a little above you in a related department. Best, Linda
