Which CATs should I practice with? [#permalink] New post 07 Aug 2007, 13:13
I have Kaplan comprehensive, Princeton Review, MGMAT and OG books. I will ofcourse practice with the GMATPrep and Powerprep CATs. But which other CATs should I practice? Everyone seems to be down on Kaplan (not indicative of the real GMAT).

So I am left with Princeton and MGMAT. Which ones should I use?

How I wish I could take 3 months off with full pay and practice each and every CAT!!!

I highly recommend MGMAT CATs. Get a book from them and get the 6 tests for free. Verbal is close, Math is way hard but scoring is close. The explanations are EXCELLENT and it helps you analyze your errors and things like that. Much better than the crappy Princeton one I took, where I got the lowest score of all my prep tests and didn't agree with most of their explanations.

I did the Princeton Review CATs, and they were very similar to the real test for me. I haven't used MGMAT.

I did one PR CAT... the math was very easy (I got a 50 or 51) and I finished with 10 minutes to spare. The verbal was hard, not because it was complicated, but because the logic they used for the answer was very different from the ones that OG uses. It was the lowest I ever scored on verbal for all tests.

So take the MGMAT if you can. Even though the math is uber-hard, the scoring is somewhat representative and you'll learn how to do math tricks faster. Add 2-4 pts to your MGMAT math score and you should get what your GMAT math will be. The verbal was pretty dead on.

I'd take Kaplan. Manhattan is ridiculously too hard.

actually, Kaplan CATs are known to give you scores over 100 pts below your real score... I think that's a LOT harder. My MGMAT CATs were within 50 pts of my final score...
