0% (00:00) correct 100% (00:39) wrong based on 1 sessions
which of the following cannot be the median of the three ordered positive integers x,y and z?
x
z
x+z
x+z/2
x+z/3

I got the correct answer (c) but was thrown off-guard by the word "ordered".What does it mean?At first glance I thought it mens that they are ordered in ascending/descending but i guess not!!Please shed some light.

Expert's post
"ordered" means that x or z is the largest integer. As median cannot be larger than the largest integer, x+z is always impossible for median. Without word "ordered" y could be the largest integer and it would be possible to get x+z as median.

in such cases you can also plug in values and check
e.g 1, 2, 3
or 1, 1, 2

yep agree. without the word 'ordered', none of the given answer choices makes sense.

here in this question, quant is also testing 'verbal' :-D
