Which of the following most logically completes the [#permalink]

Question Stats:
0% (00:00) correct
100% (02:17) wrong based on 1 sessions
Which of the following most logically completes the argument??
When people engage in activities that help others ,their brain releases endorphins,
the brain’s natural opiates, which induce in people a feeling of well-being. It has
been suggested that regular release of endorphins increases people’s longevity.
And a statistic on adults who regularly engage in volunteer work helping others
shows that they live longer, on average, than adults who do not volunteer. How-
ever, that statistic would be what we would expect even if volunteering does not
boost longevity, because _______________ .
A. in the communities studied, women were much more likely to do regular
volunteer work than men were, and women tend to live longer than men do.
B. the number of young adults who do regular volunteer work is on the increase
C. the feelings of well-being induced by endorphins can, at least for a time, mask
the symptoms of various conditions and diseases, provided the symptoms are
mild.
D. it is rare for a person to keep up a regular schedule of volunteer work through-
out his or her life.
E. Some people find that keeping a commitment to do regular volunteer work
becomes a source of stress in their lives.

The passage is saying that there was a survey with certain results and that the survey did not give correct results. Why? Because the sample data was wrong. They experimented on a group of people who did social work and lived longer. Choice " A" says that the sample set was wrong because it contained more number of women, who anyways scientifically live longer , so social work is not the reason.
So "A" is the correct answer

Not because of the endorpin thing released by the voluteering, but because of the loger lifespan of women than that of men, we can expect the survey results. Thus, the answer is A. Freshlily, what's OA? pls~

Professor,
Do you think D is totally out of scope?
I chose D firstly and still believe the answer is D.
Even though the result of research is wrong we expect the result b/c people do not involve in regular volunteering work. If the result is true, people will volunteer more regularly for longevity. This is why we expect those result of reaserch.
What do you think?
