Which schools should I target ? [#permalink] New post 12 Aug 2005, 00:29
Hi,

Thanks to evaluate my profile and post-MBA goals and recommend schools (applying for fall '06 admissions)

Profile
-------

23 yr old, Indian. Completed Bachelors degree in Singapore. Computer Engineering. Passed with second lower classification (British styled university). GPA (self-calculated 2.8 ~ 3.0)

Currently doing part-time masters in statistics - all A's thus far. Completing by Apr '06.

GMAT - 750 (51q, 40v)

Current work ex. (1.5 yrs, will be 2.5 when I marticulate). Working in singapore in a semi-conductor manufacturing plant as fabs automation engineer.

Have served as publications officer of a club while at university. Currently a part of nature conservation team at my company. Organize bi-weekly community activities geared towards nature preservation.

Post-MBA goals
--------------

Hoping to pursue a career in finance - fixed income product structuring.

I'm interested in applying to MIT-Sloan [especially interested in it's financial technology option]

I feel I have 2 strikes against me - (1) undergrad GPA (2) length of work exp.

Could suggest other schools where I'll be more competitive; schools that will also fit my profile and post-MBA goals ?

Many Thanks.

Also, for sake of completeness, let me also mention that I have passed CFA level 1.

I'd recommend Columbia, Stern and Rochester and order of difficulty to gain acceptance. The fact that you're doing well in your Masters program can help offset the undergrad GPA. And to offset the work experience, you'll definitely have to focus on your *maturity* attributes.
