I think C is more parallel to the original tone and uses the right idiom Suggest For. I would go with C. do correct me if I am wrong

(A) while combat by ~, others by ~, and still others by ~

(B) while combat by ~, others by ~, and still others ~ => out

(C) while combat by ~, others ~, and still others ~

(D) while combat by ~, others ~, and still others by ~ => out

(E) while combat by ~, others ~, and still others are ~ing => out

Among A and C, I would go A. "by sth."s are ways for preventing illegal copying.

while some propose A, while others suggest B, still others 'call for' C

it is a atter of parallel structure. every clauses are seperated by coma so need to be parallel as under:

E. While some propose to combat widespread illegal copying of computer programs by attempting to change people's attitudes toward pirating, others suggest reducing software prices to decrease the incentive for pirating, and still others are calling for the prosecution of those who copy software illegally.

A, B -> not parallel (propose ... suggesting ... calling)
D, E -> not parallel (propose ... suggest ... calling)

C is best (for me).

Surprised by OA.
C seems to be the correct one.
Propose, suggest, and call are parallel.

OA is E but can you please dissect this

While some propose

to combat widespread illegal copying of computer programs by attempting to change people’s attitudes toward pirating,

others suggest

reducing software prices to decrease the incentive for pirating, and

still others are calling ????????

now let us look at C

While some propose

to combat widespread illegal copying of computer programs by attempting to change people’s attitudes toward pirating,

others suggest

the reduction of software prices for decreasing the incentive for pirating,
(I agree 'a reduction in software prices' might have been more correct)

and still others call

thank you

opps!!!

some times writing (typing) things out makes me aware of my mistake.

"are calling" is necessary. I get your point professor.

Thank you,

while some propose and few suggest, still others are calling ~

(A) by suggesting reducing software prices to decrease the incentive for pirating, and still others by calling
(B) by suggesting the reduction of software prices to decrease the incentive for pirating, and still others call
(C) suggest the reduction of software prices for decreasing the incentive for pirating, and still others call
(D) suggest the reduction of software prices to decrease the incentive for pirating, and still others by calling
(E) suggest reducing software prices to decrease the incentive for pirating, and still others are calling

nothing wrong with C except an idiom. "suggest to" in E is better than "suggest for" in C.

in E, "still others are calling" is in present contineous form and "some propose ...., and "others suggest..." are in simple present form and all these forms of tense can be put in a sentence.
