Whom should I choose? [#permalink] New post 29 Aug 2013, 16:04
Hi there,

I have a question about Yale Silver Scholars program. As known, they require one of the recommendations to be from a professor of the candidate.
I wonder if it changes anything to request the recommendation from a business professor or from a humanities professor.

What should I consider about professors when requesting the recommendation ? Is t here any subjects which are more favorable to adcom?

Thanks a lot!

Hi there,

The short answer is no. No one subject is considered more valuable than another. HOWEVER, that said, some make more sense at times.

Your biggest consideration point should be which professor knows you the best and with whom have you worked the most? A recommendation is made strong by closeness and experience and is weakened by picking the one you think others want to read.

If they both know you equally well, then go for the business professor. But chances are this isn't the case - one probably knows you quite a bit better than the other.

Let me know if you have any questions!
