My undergrad GPA from a top 10 engineering program(Cornell) in the USA is just 2.9 with a downward trend. I took 5 years to graduate and failed (or got a D) in a few classes. I did very good on all my math classes and bombed several core engineering classes.
I took the GMAT recently and scored a 720. I went to school 7+ years back. After 8 years, will adoms look more at my GMAT or my GPA.
With good recommendations, work exp etc can I still apply to top 10/15 schools?
The Adcom will always look at everything. GPA and GMAT... It's great that you got a fantastic GMAT score, but it doesn't necessarily efface your poor academic performance. And the strength of your profile will depend heavily on your work experience, leadership, volunteer work, extra curriculars, etc.
