The modified noun is “the US citizens. The text means to imply a contrast

A. With --- sounds as if the US citizens possess 5% of world population; contrast is missing
B. As – comparing 5% with the US citizens; contrast is missing
C. Being –being renders the choice wrong; contrast is missing
D. Despite having --- citizens are said to be having 5% of population - wrong
E. Although accounting for—correct choice, - the US citizens account for 5%; the contrast is established by the conjunction ‘although’
