My answer is C for two reasons:
1. "me" instead of "I"
2. "had" has to be there, as we are comparing two past actions.

We need to use the object form of I which is me.
Had finished - past perfect is needed here.

uhm, is there any good way to test whether we should use the object vs subject form of I ?! ...I don't think it necessary that "I" be in object form only because "I" stands after a preposition ...for example : the friendship between Anna and I ( i'm sure this one is correct)

Using the objective case indicates that the pronoun is acting as an object. The object pronouns are: me, you, him, her, them, us, whom and it.
A pronoun as a direct object
* My dog likes me.
o DOG is the subject of the sentence. ME is the direct object of the verb LIKES.
A pronoun as an indirect object
* Danny handed her the ball.
o DANNY is the subject of the sentence. BALL is the direct object of the verb HANDED. HER is the indirect object.
A pronoun as an object of a preposition
* For him, no other choice seems reasonable.
o FOR is a preposition. HIM is the object of the preposition.
A pronoun as an object of a verbal (Gerund, Participle, Infinitive)
* Reprimanding Jerry and her does little good.
o REPRIMANDING is a gerund. HER is an object of the gerund.

2. Need 'had' for two consecutive past actions

Take away Frank and read: With the exception of "me" is more appropriate than "I".
Finishing the assignment was completed before the bell rang. So, "had finished" is correct.

This dispute can be resolve if one explains clearly what is the subject and object in the given sentence and why ? If this is clear the use of "me" or "I" is clear.I am confused.Can anyone please elaborate.Thanks.

Are you sure?
So it would be correct to say "the friendship among we" instead of "among us"?.
I have some doubts!

IMO it should be C
The subject for this sentence is "everyone" and "Frank and I" should be in objective case
So should be "Frank and me"
Since "everyone left before the bell rang) had should be used.
So C stands out

Me going for C for the"me" and "had"

i talked to a friend of mine about this and he told me to try to flip the order and find the answer.
ie instead of saying Frank and I/me if we say
Me/I and Frank - it becomes immediately clear that we need "me" and not I.
I and frank seems awkward.
What is the OA ?

To avoid confusion, remove the other person from the sentence and see what you are left with.
For Ex:
Ram and me find the problem very critical.
Take away Ram. You are left with Me find the problem very critical. This sounds strange, so I, not me, is correct.
Here I and Me are subject pronouns.
Examples:
You and I are always together.
"You and I" are subject pronoun.
The task was given to you and me.
"You and me" are object pronoun.
IMO, it's C. "had" is also required to show that action was taken before the bell rang.

I think it is C.
The reason I was bit confused at the beginning was that "I" was right next to "people" which seemed to be the subject of the sentence.
How can ME be in line with a subject, "people"?
Then, after a closer look, I realized that "PEOPLE IN CLASS" is the subject, not just poeple. Therefore, objective form is okay.
Plus, "of" requires an objective.

Hey anand, ur explanation sounds fine here,..but jus apprehensive, can it b applied to all similar qs..?? When there are multiple subjects (or seem to be), I do this test of looking at the subject closest to the verb for agreement. Sometimes when the verb is in front of the subject, I try to flip the sentence into S - V pattern, before doing this test.
Unfortunately, Mostly I go by my instinct rather than by hard and fast rules. Can someone else answer Raghavender's question better?
