Within 20 years it will probably be possible to identify the genetic susceptibility an individual may have toward any particular disease. Eventually, effective strategies will be discovered to counteract each such susceptibility. Once these effective strategies are found, therefore, the people who follow them will never get sick.
The argument above is based on which of the following assumptions?
(A) For every disease there is only one strategy that can prevent its occurrence.
(B) In the future, genetics will be the only medical specialty of any importance.
(C) All human sicknesses are in part the result of individuals’ genetic susceptibilities.
(D) All humans are genetically susceptible to some diseases.
(E) People will follow medical advice when they are convinced that it is effective.

Can someone please explain how to negate an assumption question? PLease dont negate only the correct answer, negate all the answer choices so that I will be able to understand properly.

Thanx

The argument above is based on which of the following assumptions?
(A) For every disease there is only one strategy that can prevent its occurrence.
- is not needed for any part of the argument. OUT

(B) In the future, genetics will be the only medical specialty of any importance.
- (red highlight) these strategies may be treatments or prenatal procedures, which will also be important. B is not needed for the argument to stand. OUT

(C) All human sicknesses are in part the result of individuals’ genetic susceptibilities.
-Argument contends that once all genetic susceptibilities are identified and their corrective measures elucidated, there'll be no more sickness. It completely depends on the assumption stated in C. CORRECT

(D) All humans are genetically susceptible to some diseases.
-Even though D is close, there is no part in the argument where it claims that all humans are affected by some disease in the first place. OUT

(E) People will follow medical advice when they are convinced that it is effective.
- Irrelevant. OUT

(C) All human sicknesses are in part the result of individuals’ genetic susceptibilities.

Negation: All human sicknesses are not result of individuals' genetic susceptibilities.

If we take negation as true, then the above argument is not valid. Strategies dont work.

(D) All humans are genetically susceptible to some diseases.

Negation: All humans are genetically not susceptible to some diseases.

In this case also, if we take negation as true, argument falls flat. Negation strategy also seems to fall flat

I would go with C because it is a better answer. It is talking about all sicknesses. Argument is also talking about all sicknesses. I guess..if option C is not there then D is right. All other options seem to be irrelevant.

(E) People will follow medical advice when they are convinced that it is effective.

(A) For every disease there is only one strategy that can prevent its occurrence. - not mentioned in the text
(B) In the future, genetics will be the only medical specialty of any importance. irrelavant/not mentioned
(C) All human sicknesses are in part the result of individuals’ genetic susceptibilities. bingo
(D) All humans are genetically susceptible to some diseases. this is also another assumption but is irrelevant(E) People will follow medical advice when they are convinced that it is effective. totally out of scope

Can someone please explain how to negate an assumption question? PLease dont negate only the correct answer, negate all the answer choices so that I will be able to understand properly.

My vote is for C. You need to show an underlying assumption which is assuming all sicknesses are caused by an individuals susceptiblity instead of say an external factor.

C it is. What got me were:

Premise: Within 20 years it will probably be possible to identify the genetic susceptibility an individual may have toward any particular disease.

Assumption: All human sicknesses are in part the result of individuals’ genetic susceptibilities.
