Re: Women are expected to be the majority of students entering [#permalink]
Option 4 and 5 are passive, option 3 unnecessarily omits "trend" in the construction. Option B is the best choice.

i'm not so sure, but I will go for A. My reasoning is that you can't use "expect", which is not so certain, with "will", which is certain. You either predict that something will happen or you can expect something to happen. Also, we need the present participle after the comma to show the consequence of the clause written before the comma so option A gives "placing."

Women are expected to be the majority of students entering law school this fall, a trend ultimately placing more women in leadership positions in politics and business.

1. Women are expected to be the majority of students entering law school this fall, a trend ultimately placing
2. The majority of students entering law school this fall are expected to be women, a trend that will ultimately place
3. The majority of students entering law school this fall are expected to be women, which will ultimately place
4. It is expected that the majority of students entering law school this fall will be women, a trend ultimately placing
5. It is expected for women to be the majority of students entering law school this fall, which will ultimately place

2.
3 and 5 have a modifier issue. 'it' in 4 doesnt have a clear antecedent. between 1 and 2, I like 2 better. I think 'a trend that will place..' sounds better than 'a trend placing..'

OA is B. Can someone point out what wrong with A?
