Just read through my HBS essays again, and it turns out I'm missing an "and" in one of the sentences... it reads "my mother is a breast cancer survivor has had three miscarriages." Does this basically mean that my application will get tossed?

As long as the rest of your essays are flawless and stories are strong, I believe it should not have a major impact on the "DECISION."

No one can really say - the only advice I can give is to learn from it, and let it go. It will probably happen again on a cover letter for jobs (or, even worse, the template - I speak from experience). As to whether people will spot it or not I am not sure - it is easy to understand how on proof reading many people would insert the word for you and overlook it.

But for your own future sanity you need to move on.

Looking through my submitted Wharton essays, I also noticed a missing word or two. I'm trying to follow my own advice of not sweating it. I can see some situation where an error would be glaring and poorly reflective on a candidate, such as misspelling your name on the resume or putting in a reference to the wrong school in an essay, but I really don't think that an isolated error would cause an app to be rejected. If that is the case, then that type of zero defect mentality might not be a good fit for me anyways.

Seriously guys, this will have no bearing whatsoever on your admission unless it is prevalent. I had plenty of mistakes in my essays - what counts is quality of stories, not whether you have a typo.
