Work experience... [#permalink] New post 12 Oct 2004, 13:45
Hello,

I am a little confused about my work experience. I worked as an assistant of portfolio manager for 4 years (administrative tasks, research, equity arbitrage, etc). As of now, I work as a branch manager for a credit union which has nine branches. How would you rate my work experience? I need to add that my GPA is 3.84 (BBA from Baruch College), and I would like to apply for a part-time MBA program at NYU. Can I apply to NYU? Is my work experience good enough? All suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

NYU Stern and work experience [#permalink] New post 12 Oct 2004, 21:13
If in your job you can show the you shouldered significant responsibility and learned a lot about businesss, specifically asset management in your case,, then your work experience would not stop you from being considered at NYU. Your GPA is competitive. Clearly you also need a competitive GMAT and decent extra-curriculars, good essays, recs, and interviews.

BTW, Accepted.com's NYU admissions chat is tomorrow at 8:00 PM ET. The Director of Admissions, other admissions staff members, and students from Stern's full-time and part-time programs will be there. The students are all members of the Asian Businss Society. The chat will take place at http://www.accepted.com/chat . For more information, please visit our MBA admissions chat schedule.

Good luck!

Hi,

Your package (as described) sounds competitive for NYU PT. For the work experience, the key is to show how your learned from the experience and how it helps you relate to the experiences of others. In addition, like so many aspects of life, how you "market" your experience to the admissions officers is extremely important.
