working together, John and Jack can type 20 pages in 1hr.
If Jack increases his speed by 25%, they can type 22 pages in 1hr.
What is the ratio of Jack's original typing speed to that of Jhon's?

a) 1/3
b) 2/5
c) 1/2
d) 2/3
e) 3/5

D: 2/3

o-john
a-jack

o + a = 20
o + 1.25a = 22

20-a + 1.25a=22
a=8

20-8=o=12

ratio of jack to john: a/o = 8/12 = 2/3

D.
25% Jack = 2 hours.
Jack = 8 hours.
John = 20 - 8 = 12 hours
so ratio of jack to john = 8/12 = 2/3

John: J pages ... 1 hr
Jack: K pages ... 1 hr
Tgther: J+K pages ... 1 hr => J+K = 20

If Jack increases his velocity by 25% =>
J + 1.25K = 22 => K = 8; J = 12 => K/J = 2/3 => D.
