Working together, Max and Mandy painted the living room in six hours. How long would it have taken for Max to paint the room by himself?

1. Mandy paints twice as fast as Max does.
2. If Max had left when the job was half finished, it would have taken Mandy hours 4 1/2 to finish the job by herself.

(1) Sufficient
If Mandy takes x hours on her own, Max takes 2x
So we know that 1/x + 1/2x = 1/6
We can solve for x

(2) Sufficient
Mandy takes 4.5hours alone to finish half
So Mandy needs 9hours to finish
So 1/9 + 1/(Max) = 1/6
Again we can solve to get how fast Max paints

Answer : D

Working together: \frac{Max*Mandy}{Max+Mandy} = 6

1) Mandy paints twice as fast as Max does. So Mandy takes half the time that Max does.

Mandy = \frac{Max}{2}

no need to solve further as we already have two equations. SUFFICIENT.

2) Mandy took 4\frac{1}{2} hrs to finish \frac{1}{2} job. So Mandy takes 9hrs to complete the job. Using this info, can solve the time of Max. SUFFICIENT
