A is sufficient.

B is not because

if sqrt(y) = 1.1 and x = 1.2 then Y = 1.21 > x
if sqrt(y) = 1.1 and x = 3 then Y = 1.21 < x

(1) is enough
(2) is not

A

All statement two says is y<x^2, y could be < or > then x
