Assume X and Y are 3 and 5.

Then XY^2 = (35)(35)

Factors are = 1,3,5,9,15,25,45,75,225

# of factors = 9

I think you read it incorrectly. In your approach if we assume X and Y as 2 and 3 then

XY^2 = (23)(23) or (32)(32) in this case factors can not be determined.

But I think question says X and Y are different prime numbers, (may be one digit or multiple digits). Then we have to find factors of X * Y^2.

Am I right joemama??

Even in this case, arnt factor are numbers which divide the integer which it factorises? , how can 35 be divided by 9 ? . with my exam tomorrow i am getting confused

If x is 2 and y is 5 then 25^2 is 625. The factors I got was 1, 25, 625, 5, 125. It is not divisible by x. I only got 5 factors?

anything muliplied by 2 is even
