1) 4 is the integer that is closest to x+y

2) 1 is the integer that is closest to x-y

Answer is E, I had worked this problem recently

E?

x+y=4
x-y=1
x=2.5, y=1.5
X can be closer to 3 or 2 depending on deviation of y from 1.5?

2.7 + 1.3 = 4.0
2.7 - 1.3 = 1.4

or

2.3 +1.7=4.0
2.3-1.7=.6

is my thinking in the right direction?

x + y = 4
x - y = 1

x,y = 2.5, 1.5 (approx)

x could go either way - 2 or 3.
