X visited Y on vacation.In the mornings,they both would go for workouts.In the evenings they would play tennis.To have more fun, they indulge only in one activity per day, i.e. either they went for workouts or played tennis each day.There were days when they were lazy and stayed home all day long.There were 24 mornings when they did nothing.14 evenings when they stayed at home, and a total of 22 days when they did workouts or played tennis.For how many days Shyam stayed with Ram?

Tennis ==> T/evening
Workout ==> W/morning

T + W = 22

x = nothing

24 mornings did nothing means ==> T + x = 24

14 evenings did nothing means ==> W + x = 14

T + W +2*x = 38 ==> 16 = 2*x ==> x = 8

Total stay = 22 + 8 = 30.

i think it is not a probability but a set problem

x=total days => x-24+(x-14)=22 => x=30

or just use logic

14 evenings stayed home means 14 mornings with sports => substract 14 from 22 => 8 evenings with sports => substract 8 from 24 => 16 mornings without sport => add 16 and 14 and you get 30

It's easier to do it through algebra.

But you could also think this way. For every day there will be a morning and a evening. Add all the mornings they did something and did not do something, and all the evenings they did something and did not do something, then divide them by two you'll get the days. So 24 mornings they did nothing, 14 evenings they did nothing, 22 mornings or evenings they did something. (24+14+22)/2=30

I get 36, like Ant...

This is how I see it:

The problem tells us that they only do one activity per day, and some days, they were lazy and did nothing.

On 24 mornings, they did nothing.
On 14 evenings, they did nothing.
But on 22 days, they either worked out or played tennis (W+T=22)

24-14 = 10 days of evening sports

Since W+T = 22, there need (at least) 12 more days of activities.

24+12 = 36 days of vacation (where can I get that job!?)

Does this make sense? Or am I reading the question incorrectly?
