4 | 1 |-5| m
e | 7 | n | 10
f | 2 |-4 | 5

What is the value of m+n?

Is it like this?

-5 + 1 + m = 4 so m = 8
f = 2 -4 + 5 = 3

****since f = 3 , e = 2?****

then n = -15

so m+n = 7 ?

m = z + 4
n = y + e
m + n = z + 4 + y + e

lets rearrange:
m + n = (z + e) + (4 + y)
m + n = 10 + (-5) because (z+e) should be equal to 10 and (4+y) = -5.
therefore, (m + n) = 5

i guess i also did it many times. :P :P :P

What is the value of m+n?

the positive sign, +, in the upper left tells that every entry in the box equal to sum of the corresponding element in the top row and first column.

so m = corresponding element in the top row (i.e. z) + corresponding element in the first column (i.e. 4) = z + 4
similarly n = y + e
so, m+n = y + e + z + 4
m+n = y + e + z + 4
lets try what value fits if we combine any two of the right hand side of the equation.

e + z = 10
y + 4 = -5

so lets sum them.
m+n = 10-5 = 5

did i make it clear?
