Good luck everyone! Take a deep breath, you'll be fine. I hope to see you on campus for interviews soon!

Anyone know when they typically send out interview invites?

someone asked this during my info session when I spent the day at Yale. The Admissions Officer said that candidates can get an interview decision at any time during a round. She said there is no advantage in their eyes to submitting your application 1 month before the deadline or the day of. They don't start processing and reading the applications until the day after one of the round deadlines. And then after processing, they read the applications in random candidate order.

Do the vast majority of applicants get interviewed? I don't think I read it as being a mandatory part of the admissions process at SOM, unless I'm mistaken.

I have no idea how accurate this is but according to this site, about 28% of applicants get interviewed:

http://www.businessweek.com/bschools/ra ... /yale.html

You are correct. Interviews are by invitation only.

Yale has approximately a 20% acceptance rate and has a very low yield as compared to other schools (42%).

Personally, I feel 28% is just too low a number to call for interviews. From these numbers it suggests every 7 out of 10 people interviewed get in.

But could be true. Rest of the numbers certainly match.

Just a heads up - yield went up to 46% last year and historically ~40-50% of interviewed applicants receive an acceptance.

Good luck!

I recently attended the Bangalore Info Session of Yale SOM. I've written my experiences here. Hope this helps in applications.

Another angle to my question "are interviews mandatory?" which I failed to convey, was wondering if it is common (or even possible) for applicants at SOM to be admitted without an interview? Or is every single admit only given after an interview with SOM? Are there any #'s on this statistic?

As far as I know, you need an invite to get in. I haven't heard of anyone getting admitted without one.

Also, just a heads up - finals week for 1st years just started, so if we take a bit to respond it's not because we don't care. =)

To jump off of this - SOM has not historically re-interviewed those who've interviewed in the last year. I don't know if this is still the case, but this was the case when I first applied 5 years ago.

Scariest thing about finals? Realizing that a full 8th of your MBA experience is over.

ETA: The policy has probably changed in the last 5 years, but I do not know for sure what their process looks like. Specific questions on interviewing should go to the Admissions Office - I asked this exact question of the Associate Director who ended up calling me with my acceptance.
