You have 4 jars of pills. Each pill is a certain weight, except for contaminated pills contained in one jar, where each pill is weight + 1. How could you tell which jar had the contaminated pills in just one measurement?

each pill weight =w
contaminated pill weight=w+1

Take different no of pills from 4 jackets.

For e.g
from Jar1 1 pill
from Jar 2 2 pills
from Jar 3 3 pills
from Jar 4 4

weight total pills = w+2w+3w+4w + x (x-- contaminated pills extra weight)
= 10w+x

once you measured the weight.. find x

if x=1 -- first jar
if x=2 second jar
if x=3 third jar.
if x=4 4th jar.

try this: Suppose you had 8 billiard balls, and one of them was slightly heavier, but the only way to tell was by putting it on a scale against another. What's the fewest number of times you'd have to use the scale to find the heavier ball?

Will it be 3?

step 1: 4 balls on each side of the scale. Get the heavier side balls.
step 2: 2 balls on each side of the scale from the lot of balls of heavier side in step 1. Get the heavier side balls.
step 3: 1 ball on each side of the scale. Get the heavier ball.
