Zelda: Dr. Ladlow, a research psychologist, has convincingly [#permalink]

Zelda: Dr. Ladlow, a research psychologist, has convincingly demonstrated that his theory about the determinants of rat behavior generates consistently accurate predictions about how rats will perform in a maze. On the basis of this evidence, Dr. Ladlow has claimed that his theory is irrefutably correct.
Anson: Then Dr. Ladlow is not a responsible psychologist; Dr. Ladlow’s evidence does not conclusively prove that his theory is correct. Responsible psychologists always accept the possibility that new evidence will show that their theories are incorrect.
Anson bases his conclusion about Dr. Ladlow on which one of the following?
(A) an attack on Dr. Ladlow’s character
(B) the application of a general principle
(C) the use of an ambiguous term
(D) the discrediting of facts
(E) the rejection of a theoretical explanation

A for me too. He says Dr. Ladlow is not speaking responsibly - means Dr. Ladlow does not have good character.
I stand corrected to B. Thanks guys.

Welllll... Anson is not basing her conclusion on an attack on Ladlow's character. That's her conclusion!
She's basing it on the general principle that you can never have an irrefutable research finding.
She would be basing it on Ladlow's character if she were to say something like:
"Ladlow is not a responsible pychologist, as he lies most of the time. I wouldn't necessarily believe his claims."
I think it's B.

I had thought a lot about B then I chose A. Wait for the OA.

1 min B it is. I was surprised most people chose A.
Principle: Responsible psychologists always accept the possibility that new evidence will show that their theories are incorrect
Evidence: Dr. Ladlow has claimed that his theory is irrefutably correct
Conclusion: Then Dr. Ladlow is not a responsible psychologist
Hence, Anson's conclusion is based on the above mentioned principle.

B for me.
people said this principle is bad; so did Anson. No solid reasoning behind what he formulated.
