Jonathan Schneider Reviews

Company: Manhattan Prep

Jonathan has taught the ins and outs of the GMAT to over 1,000 MBA applicants. He regularly receives emails from students saying that they achieved a 700+ score and were admitted to their first-choice school.

Jonathan first took the GMAT in 2007, scoring a 780. He joined Manhattan Prep later that year. Since then, he has regularly taught both the 9-week class and the Boot Camp, tutored private students, written company curriculum (both Quant and Verbal), and generally been involved with every aspect of the company's work with students. In 2010, he began to train new Instructors, a role that allowed him to "teach the teacher." He now serves as the Manager of Instructor Development, screening Instructor candidates and training them to become the best possible classroom teachers. Jonathan came from a liberal arts background, earning honors for a creative writing thesis in Spanish at Amherst College, a thesis that he illustrated with his hand-pulled expressionist woodcuts. Jonathan aims to make his classes a laboratory for learning, where students learn not just the content of the GMAT but how to think critically about all aspects of the exam. As a student in Jonathan's class, expect to be both challenged and supported as you push yourself to think better, faster. Outside of his role at Manhattan Prep, Jonathan still maintains an art studio. His other loves include literature, baseball, and world travel.

I would highly recommend Manhattan GMAT because of the high quality instruction and materials.

I took the 9-week Manhattan GMAT in-person class in Manhattan, and my instructor was Jonathan Schneider. I was extremely impressed by Jonathan as an instructor, and I would recommend Manhattan GMAT because I would advise other students to take his class. Jonathan was enjoyable and engaging in class, and he clearly had a mastery of the material and cared about student success. I felt extremely lucky that I had such an effective teacher, and even though Manhattan GMAT came well reviewed, Jonathan exceeded my expectations as a teacher. Jonathan was responsive via email, was willing to meet with students before and after class, and even let me tag along with him during his lunch break right before my test to talk me through a difficult subject matter I had missed in class.

The materials were also excellent. It had been 10 full years since I had done any serious math, and my quant score increased by 20 percentiles.

My only complaint is admittedly selfish - I wish we could have spent even more time on the quantitative section. I walked in significantly stronger on the verbal section, however, the techniques taught in the class helped me a great deal even with the verbal section. I got a 700 overall score on the test, but that was largely on my verbal skills being even better than my math skills. I was glad that my verbal score increased significantly as well, but I wish there could be even more of the math materials taught in the class. That said, the course was excellent, and I was very satisfied with my experience.

Methodical Cirriculmn + Excellent Teaching = Results

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I decided to sign up for MGMAT because I wanted to score in the 700+ range. Studying on my own was not yeilding the results I wanted, because I noticed that I was getting the same types of problems incorrect, without being able to truly analyze my weaknesses and create a systematic approach to improve. I was still able to recollect my basic quantitative and verbal skills, but MGMAT instruction and cirriculmn helped me improve my test taking strategy and timing for each problem. The MGMAT curriculum accurately categorizes the types of of quantitative problems into several topics, and by studying thoroughly each topic through the GMAT books, and the syllabus recommended problems, I was able to recognize the types of quant. problems immediately during the exam. This allowed me to quickly devise a strategy thus saving time spent on setting up the solution approach for each problem. The in class instruction was especially helpful for the more difficult problems because our instructor was able to extrapolate a simpler problem into a 700+ problem and explain the similarities and differences. This helped me understand how more challenging problems are phrased, and how to translate these problems into math. One particular example is for combinations/permutations & probability. I was never able to fundamentally grasp this topic until our MGMAT instructor gave us a hands - on example during class. After that, any such problem was easy!

I highly recommend MGMAT to those who are serious about their GMAT scores. There is a lot of homework during the course, and additional study time required prior to the exam, but I saw the results and was able to monitor how my score increased with each subsequent practice exam.
