Great Experience with Reed Arnold

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I worked with Reed at Manhattan Prep NYC from May-August 2019. I came in to tutoring scoring around 560-610 on a few practice GMATs I had taken. In September, I ended up scoring a 710 (45Q, 41V)! Reed's patience, clever strategies/tricks and expertise were a critical part of my GMAT journey. I am by no means a natural test taker, but with persistence and Reed's guidance I was able to exceed my target score. Not only is he fun to work with, but he is great at tailoring each lesson exactly to what you need (sometimes he knew what I needed better than I did) for both Quant and Verbal. I highly recommend working with Reed if you are looking to improve you GMAT score. I can genuinely say that not only did his expertise greatly help my score but also that I looked forward to every session! It's been a pleasure.

600 to 720 score in 9 weeks!

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I knew I would need a class in order to actually spend time working on the GMAT, and the class structure was extremely helpful. Ryan McGorman is the epitome of a teacher- you can tell he's been teaching the material for a long time, and has practical suggestions on how to improve your score. I honestly didn't hold out much hope for being able to improve my score enough from my initial practice test of score of 600 (or 510 on the one Manhattan Prep gave me!), and thought it would take at least three to six months. Miraculously, I had signed myself up for an exam the week following the end of my course (all of 8 weeks), and went into it expecting not to reach my target score of 730, and actually scored a 720!!! Turns out diligently doing all the work Manhattan Prep assigned, and attending class with Ryan actually works! I listened to his advice about moving on quickly from problems that weren't my strengths, and actually finished all sections of my exam with time to spare!

I'm debating whether or not to invest time in a second exam (as they recommend since most exam takers score better on the second one), or to move on to my applications as I'm quite happy with my current score. :) Thanks Ryan McGorman and Manhattan Prep!

Ryan was great!

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

Great course - focused on efficiency and strategies, rather than extraneous content. Everything I learned was very useful during the actual test. Ryan, in particular, was an awesome teacher. He was very blunt, and direct; and I even found it helpful (weirdly) to approach questions with his emphatic voice/intonations, as well as his helpful analogies. There was an optimal balance of quant vs. verbal content, and the strategies were very helpful, particularly in time management/on the quant section. Additionally, the 1-on-1 assessment during the course to help focus my strengths/weaknesses did wonders for my score. There were only 2 minor negative aspects with the curriculum: 1. Limited practice tests (more personal preference – I study best through excessive repetition, so I wanted more than 6) and 2. Slightly too much IR focus in the homework assignments.

Manhattan Prep in Chelsea w/Reed Arnold!

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I took the 9 week GMAT course with Reed Arnold at Manhattan Prep's Chelsea location. I highly recommend the course and highly recommend Reed specifically! I improved by over 100 points and got accepted into both of the schools I applied for. The course is great if you are busy and working because they essentially lay out the study plan for you and force you to dedicate to it. Before I took the course, I found myself too busy to be efficient in my studying. The course also comes with the Official Guide (the OG) which is great and a must have for studying. I frankly did not use the foundation books or the other smaller study books the course provides you with. I know most of the class did, however. I was on a fast track and taking the test one week after the course ended though so I cut to the chase and just used the OG and the practice tests. The homework from the course is great as well, they select questions from the OG for you to do - keeps you on track. Reed was my instructor and I think he really made the difference. He's very energetic and surprisingly funny. This is wildly helpful when you haven't studied in years and need to be forced to pay attention. Highly recommend!

Manhattan Prep Is Outstanding

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by school email address [?]

I had an excellence experience with Manhattan Prep. Manhattan Prep provides a complete package of study material (including practice exams and subject-specific books), ideal for people aiming to reach a top ten percentile score. My instructor, Matthew Brandon, kept the class engaged and had a superb grasp on the content. I left each class excited to practice the skills I learned and discover how much my performance had improved. In the end, it most certainly paid off, as I achieved a score of 760 (Q50, V42), which was well above what I was targeting. It goes without saying that I highly recommend this company.

Manhattan GMAT is the best

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

Manhattan GMAT gives you two things: a structured approach to studying and great teachers.

The structured approach was key to studying after I was done with the courses. I was initially overwhelmed and doing problems all over the place, but the structured approached focused my attention and let me invest in one top until I fully understood.

Eric Caballero was the man! He kept classes light and engaging, and was very up front about the true amount of investment it would take to do well. He also made himself available over email and after hours. Eric has been doing this for many years and it shows.

Great Experience with Manhattan Prep

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

Having decided to take the GMAT but with absolutely zero experience with the test, I knew I needed a class to help me guide me through my studies. I was referred by several friends to Manhattan Prep, who all had excellent things to say about the program, and signed up for the 9-week in person class. I scored a 590 on my first practice exam (going in completely cold), and over the course of the next 9 weeks, increased my score to 700. On test day, one week later, I felt completely confident and scored a 720. The class is structure, detailed online solutions, and wealth of knowledge in the various strategy guides very extremely useful resources. In addition, Ryan's teaching style was very effective. He really forced us to think through each problem deeper and in a different way than I ever would on my own. An great experience with Manhattan Prep enabled me to improve 130 points in just 10 weeks; I highly recommend the program to anyone taking the GMAT.

Manhattan Prep In-Person Classes

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

In my opinion, the MGmat guides set is definitely worth the money but I can't say the same for the in-person classes. The video 'interact' option that you get with the in-person class package was great because I could watch and re-watch the lessons until I was confident about certain topics.
Although I had a very smart instructor (insane GMAT/ LSAT Score), I feel that in the in-person classes, we didn't really go to in-depth when we studied concepts, the classes were mostly about 'tips and tricks' one uses when answering multiple choice questions (how to eliminate/ how to choose etc) and discussing solutions to a few questions. If you need content, read the MGmat guides cover to cover (I can't stress this enough).
For me, I would have probably learned the same if I had opted for the online course instead of the in-person one. So in my opinion, I would still choose to learn via the MGmat course (that's how I learn best) but I would instead opt for the online option (not the in-person classroom experience).
One more thing, this was also a recommendation of MGmat, make sure to schedule your test at least a month after your last class. Practicing on your own is KEY to a good score and that month (or more if you have time) will really help you drill down concepts learned from the guides and from the videos/ in class. PS: English is my first language.

Highly recommend Manhattan Prep and Jonathan Schneider!!

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by membership [?]

I took Manhattan Prep's GMAT courses last year. The syllabus was very well designed and the instructor, Jonathan Schneider, was extremely skilled and up-to-date on the latest GMAT trends/topics/question types. Coming from Engineering background, my biggest weakness was in Verbal section, for which the combination of Manhattan's text books and CAT exams and Jonathan's instructions were extremely helpful. From information on the algorithm that Official GMAT uses to calculate the score, to common mistakes that people make in different question types, to smallest details on how to physically and mentally prepare for the exam, you can ask or email Jonathan whatever you want and he's always there to answer with tremendous resourcefulness and patience, even far after you're done with classes. Two month after I finished my classes I got 710 in my first official GMAT try. I build upon the solid verbal foundation that Jonathan and Manhattan's classes had created in me to study more, and eventually in my third try I got 760 (99th percentile) with a verbal score of 44 (98th) percentile. I highly recommend Manhattan and especially Jonathan's classes to whoever is shooting for a 700+ or score.

Great course and books

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I took the ManhattanPrep classes early in 2016 and high recommend the course. The classes and material were great and helped me study to take the GMAT and get a score over 700. The books and online material are very streamlined so you study in the most efficient manner and don't waste time learning or doing things that won't help. Our instructor, Christine, was a lot of fun. Make no mistake though, the study and homework workload is heavy. I'd say 10-20 hrs per week.

Their website was particularly useful. They have online classes that cover the class content and can also be used for review. The interactive classes have excellent exercises to help with the AWA and IR. And finally they have the online CATs and a system to take the individual questions/tests online, review answer explanations and analyze your performance on specific types of questions so you can work on improving weak areas.
