I have reviewed verbal course materials from many other sources before I decided to purchase e-GMAT verbal prep. This course definitely designed for non-natives. The course starts with basic fundamentals which I had forgotten over the period of the time. E-GMAT SC course provides step by step guidance on how to crack SC accurately and efficiently. The instructor teaches very well on how to break the sentences / paragraph and take benefit of few other techniques to solve RC, CR. The instructors are very nice and have patience for the students. I found the course is very affordable too. As it’s an online course, it gives me the flexibility to read at my own pace and time.
I strongly recommend to upcoming GMAT takers to explore e-GMAT courses for GMAT preparation.

I took a mock gmat 8 months back and wasn't surprised to find out that my main weakness was Verbal. Being an engineer, I was good in Quant. Hence I wanted a course that can strengthen the foundations required for cracking Verbal. After a lot of research, I found that verbal online course offered by e-gmat was the most suitable and cost effective for me.

Currently I am giving my practice tests and am able to consistently score above 700.
This increase is definitely due to the improvement that I have managed to make in my verbal score.

A few things that I loved about their Verbal strategies:

1) They emphasize on understanding the meaning of the sentence first and then identifying the error and then looking at the answer choice (earlier I used to directly look at the answer choices which would increase my confusion).

Also understanding the meaning helps especially in solving harder gmat questions as gmat often misuses certain words such as modifiers or change the voice of the sentence to correct the error but change the meaning.

Also a separate grammar section at the very beginning was very helpful to clear the basics. I think this part is very useful for the non natives.

2) In CR, they follow a unique approach of forming the Logical structure of the argument which helps identifying the scope & assumptions of the argument. Also pre-thinking helps you understand the argument better and weed out incorrect answer choices easily.

3) In RC, their approach of summarizing the topic really helped me solve questions with accuracy as it is very easy to get overloaded with information especially in humanity/history passages.

Overall I am very satisfied with the Verbal content.
I highly recommend Verbal to any non native who is struggling. They also offer some free concepts on their website where you can see first hand the quality of their resources.

Best wishes
Vinit

EMPOWERgmat for the win January 05 | 2016

EMPOWERgmat really helped me organize my scattered and overwhelming approach to the GMAT. After self-studying for about a month and a half, I used the EMPOWERgmat Score Booster to inject some purpose into my studying. The course provided me with new, simple techniques for both verbal and quant and allowed me to develop an effective strategy for each question type. I started to understand how the test makers were thinking and I was able to identify the difficult questions that were not worth worrying about. If you are seeing minimal improvement with self-study or other courses, I highly recommend making the switch. The course simply gets to the point and allowed me the confidence to score a 730 on my first attempt.

I decided to use Optimus Prep for my preparation because of a recommendation. My first score in the GMATPrep software was a devastating 490 (without any practice).
The included on demand course is a useful tool to learn the basic principles for both the verbal and quant section.
The private lessons with the tutor are the best part of the package. My tutor Jennifer is a patient and experienced teacher who manages to easily teach even the advanced topics of the GMAT.
Furthermore the customer support was very well. You will get an answer to every question.
Unfortunately I didn't reach the 700 (caused by my performance on the verbal part). But I got a full refund because of the score guarantee. If you plan to take this package you should keep in mind that there are several requirements for the refund (it requires hard work, but that is justified in my opinion).
In conclusion, I can fully recommend the Optimus Prep Private Tutoring Online if you are reaching for the 700+!

After enrolling in e-gmat Verbal Live Prep 2 years ago I again signed up (at 50 % cost ) as I wanted to give one more try to GMAT; along with that I signed for e-gmat Quant Live Prep which was not there 2 years back . My last Official GMAT Quant score was 39 (44 in Mocks ) , I found it difficult to increase my GMAT Quant score above 45 . I was preparing my GMAT Quant from Indian CAT books and found some topics such as Inequality , Absolute value , Numbers etc difficult (as they were not covered well ) . After signing up for e-gmat Quant Live Prep I read theory and application files , there is a lot of course material which is new to me ( I did not read from Indian CAT books ). E-gmat people have really done their homework well by covering all the topics adequately , they have also file of topic-wise Official Guide Questions to be solved . I hope to increase my Official Quant Score to 49 to get the optimal GMAT score . I regularly attend live sessions which are very helpful to clear any doubts . E-gmat Team is very helpful and easily accessible for query . Recommended for Non-natives who do not have required training in standardized testing and natives whose Quant skills need improvement .

e-GMAT Verbal Online is one of the most comprehensive courses for the GMAT SC! January 04 | 2016

I was really struggling to get to the right answer in SC problems and here the Verbal Online course helped quite a bit! The e-gmat approach here is simple - understand the meaning of the sentence. As soon as you figure out the flow you start figuring out the errors (eg. if you see a comparison, you start recollecting all the rules you learnt there). This helps us quite a bit in understanding question style of the gmat, and this allows e-gmat to come up with gmat like questions in their practice tests. They have a pretty comprehensive Scholaranium that can help you take your preparation to the next level as well.

Overall, I am satisfied with their Verbal Online course. If you are only subscribing to Verbal Online then training modules/sections are mainly done by the test-taker, there is minimal trainer support. e-gmat doesnt leave you on your own or anything, they just let you take the first steps and when you figure out the support mechanisms you take full help. This is especially true when you do the Scholaranium, the support there is pretty good (you can add notes to questions, leave comments for the instructors). I believe they have more focus on support when it comes to Verbal Live prep, so if you think you need a constant companion in your prep, I think Verbal Live can help you find that, plus some people flourish in competition for them I am sure their webinars are a great place to compare scores and more than that compare errors (that we all make on GMAT).

I read a lot of reviews on various sites and decided to go for the Verbal Online course and it didnt disappoint. I have mostly concentrated on the Verbal Online course above, but I am sure you will find some comprehensive reviews for Verbal Live out there as well, I would say go through some of these reviews and take some help in your leap towards your bright management career.

Good for the Final Push January 04 | 2016

I had taken a course prior through another reputable company and that was great. It set the foundation for me but I needed something else to give me that final push. That's where Empower came in.

I think what sets Empower apart is they have a great support system in case you have questions and their material really reflects that they understand the test and want to give you every piece of advice to help you ace it, from your mindset going in, even to miscellaneous things like what you should eat or small tricks you can do.

Through Empower I was able to push my score from 710 to 740 and make no mistake, those last 30 points are very difficult to achieve.

Overall, a strong score is always dependent on your work ethic first. No course by itself will help you achieve your goals without it, but having Empower did everything outside of that to guide me there. Thank you!

This review is for: Economist GMAT Tutor Premium Prep | Location: Online

I gave 2 diagnostic tests before starting with the Economist GMAT tutor and scored a 650 and 680 on them. Over approximately 2 months I spent 92 hours on the Economist GMAT tutor software and did not use any other preparatory material. I scored 760 on the two official GMAT practice tests and 740 on the final GMAT. Overall, I was very happy with my experience with the Economist GMAT tutor and even though it may be a bit more expensive than some of its competitors, I feel the money was well spent.

Positives
• Adaptive learning – Most GMAT programmes follow the “one-size fits all” approach. GMAT test takers have different backgrounds and skill sets, which means that there is really no “average student” which makes it important for a learning programme to meet the specific needs of the student. After giving the initial diagnostic tests, I did not give another test till I finished approximately 50% of the programme. Throughout this time I felt like I was making no progress because my accuracy on the practice questions with the GMAT tutor remained the same. However, the software was probably working on my weaknesses and giving me tougher questions on my stronger areas, which is what eventually helped me improve my score.
• Easy to fit into a busy schedule – This programme is really good for people who need to balance work and other commitments with GMAT studies. You can have sessions from 5 mins up to 1 hour and can easily fit in short sessions on your way to work or during breaks so you are constantly making some progress.

Negatives
• Can not go back to past questions or explanations – Your “Dashboard” on the GMAT tutor has summaries of all the topics you have covered but it’s not possible to go to the detailed explanations of previous topics/practice questions.
• I had scheduled two tutoring sessions the day before my final GMAT to solve a few last minute doubts, but BOTH the tutors did not show up on skype for the sessions. They later apologised and said that this was a rare occurrence, but it was incredibly frustrating and highly unprofessional of them because not only did I waste time on skype waiting for the tutors, I had to spend a few hours on the internet trying to find the answers to my questions when all I wanted to do was relax one day before my GMAT.

I decided to enroll for e-GMAT because I wanted a course that provided me complete flexibility and allowed me to pace myself as per my liking. Additionally, the instructors were Indian, so I though I would get a better perspective on how to approach GMAT exam as an Indian candidate.

I found it to be a good course in that it had summarized the important concepts tested on GMAT in one place. It could certainly be a great course for someone who was starting with a poor verbal score. However, in my case I began when I was scoring 38-41 in GMAT Prep verbal section. In fact, I scored 38 in one of e-GMAT's own workshops, without much preparation. I diligently went through the entire course and also attended e-GMAT's final workshops where they try to teach you how to maximize your score. I wish I had not attended that workshop, because in an effort to act 'cute' and follow the 'clever' strategies they suggested, I screwed up my verbal section and scored only 35.

I decided to retake my GMAT and requested e-GMAT to extend my subscription. They asked for a proof of registration, which I found a bit weird because not always does a person plan the exact date. I certainly didn't want to lose that flexibility. Anyway, I decided to look at other options, and i'm glad I found MGMAT's forum, which I used to review various GMAT Prep official questions I had downloaded from GMATClub. Using those reviews, I was able to identify my mistakes and improve my sentence correction accuracy. I scored 41 in the verbal section of my second GMAT attempt.

So if someone is thorough with the basic concepts, I won't recommend this course. But if someone is looking to learn various sentence correction concepts, then it's a fantastic course. e-GMAT is a great company, but unfortunately I didn't have a very favorable experience with their course and their subscription extension policy.

I'm no GMAT pro, but feel as though I should be one (4th time's a charm). Money is tight, but this resource so far is proving to be very helpful, and affordable. Having video explanations after each problem is super helpful. The price cannot be beat when you compare it to the other elite programs out there. It's very easy to sign up and start studying instantly. I encourage people to take advantage of such a great program. I was recommended to this by a friend who improved his score by 50 points which put him over 710. Here's to a 700 points plus score!
