Had a great experience w/ Veritas Prep and ended up gaining more than 100 points on my score. Anthony was always available to help with specific questions, and helped to tailor the course to the needs of the class. Couldn't have asked for a better experience and was well worth the time and effort. I came in struggling with the quantitative section, but was able to make up significant ground while also gaining in the qualitative score. The online answer guides and ability to take more tests through the program were a huge help while I was reviewing and studying for the exam, and I've used the guide to help me better understand b-school options. Veritas put me in a good position to succeed, and I ended up doing better on the test than expected as a result of its methods.

I took the July-August 2016 Houston Full Course Veritas Prep Class taught by Mark Alan Robinson. I’ve got a few notes about Veritas Prep resources and then a review about Mark:

Veritas Prep
1. Lots of Material that at first feels overwhelming if, like me, all you know about the GMAT is how to spell it. That being said, the structure of the course material is excellent, and the way it’s broken down into pre-class skillbuilder work, lessons, and homework is great.

2. It is worth (if you have time) watching the videos for each lesson BEFORE class. You can watch them at 1.5x or 2x speed (I felt 2x was too much, but YMMV). This helps get a feel for the lesson, as well as pay more attention to what the instructor says. It’s not crucial, but it’s worth doing.

3. The feedback from the Veritas Prep team via email is quick and effective. They try to answer within 24 hours.

4. The homework solutions are also well done, with additional videos submitted of ways to tackle various problems really helpful (there’s more than one way to skin a cat, some are just more efficient than others). The homework not only shows you how to get to the actual answer, but gives some background on why the other answers are trap answers and why they are there.

5. The plethora of practice exams is way more than you need! There’s no shortage and it even gives you feedback on pacing and timing.

6. The online homework format helps a lot in that it gets you familiar with going through questions on a computer. It’s in your best interests to do this from the start; you wont have anything more than a marker and some laminated paper on the exam, so highlighting parts of a question are only going to set you up for a poor performance.

7. The “Think like the Testmaker” is useful for the higher-end problems and gets people into the mindset of “what are they really asking” and “why are you here”.

My one complaint with the Veritas Prep course is that they scheduled class Tuesdays and Thursdays. Ideally it would be Mondays and Thursdays as one day between lessons isnt sufficient. That being said, it’s likely so they can squeeze another class Monday-Wednesdays and run 2 classes concurrently. This might allow more students to take the class BUT it has an adverse effect on effective class preparation. It also means Mark doesn’t see his kids 4 nights a week…

Mark Alan Robinson
I feel like if Mark were a Yelp review on his own, he’d score a 4, with 80% giving 5 stars and 20% giving 1 star. He’s in a difficult position in that he has the goal of getting people from all backgrounds singing from the same hymn-sheet in the space of 6 weeks. He has to reteach math to engineers like me who just want to write equations all day (it’s math without doing math) and at the same time deal with folks who struggle to read and analyze long passages of text without falling asleep (I guess that also applies to me!).

However (transition word), if all I got in an instructor was a carbon copy of the online video I would have been disappointed. Mark throws his own teaching methods at each problem and tries to use different tools to tackle each area, be it comparing data sufficiency questions to 2 consultants or recipe making, or leveraging as much as we can from the answers to gauge what to look for in the question stem (Mark: What do you smell? Is it Oregano? Me: Mark, I don’t know, it’s 9 PM and I’m tired). Classes ran from 7-10 PM, and most of us are all working professionals so to keep us engaged for that long was a tough job, at which I feel he succeeded. He would even stick around after class (on at least one occasion for several hours) talking through questions and general business school thoughts with students. He cares, he wants you to succeed, and he goes well beyond what’s required.

I’ve already written the GMAT once since finishing the course and scored a 660. 8 Weeks ago this would have felt amazing, but after this course I actually feel disappointed (having written 5 practice tests that ranged from 660-720). I would never have been close to achieving this without Mark and the Veritas Prep Course, and to be clear I, the engineer, bombed the Quant, NOT the verbal, so that’s on me, not him.

One that thing, it’s worth signing up for test after 8 classes. Yes, it’s $250, but by class 8 you should have all the info you need. I regret not doing it, but there’s little pressure to succeed at this point and it will help get the jitters out by the time you try it again a few weeks later.

TL; DR: If you’re serious and are willing to put the work in, do it. Don’t waste this much $ for a subpar job. Sign up with Mark Alan Robinson and leverage as much online resources through Veritas Prep as you can. Oh, and RTFQ.

The immersion course was exactly what I needed to help me boost my score. Ravi Sreerama is an excellent instructor. Before the course, I struggled with timing on both quant and verbal sections but his strategy allowed me save time - it really paid off on test day!

The course materials were extremely helpful and Ravi taught the course in an engaging manner. He teaches you great techniques / shortcuts and encourages you to think like the test maker.

Overall, I increased my score by 60 points thanks to Ravi!

I strongly recommend the course. You leave the course with skills that will allow you to perform well on test day (with hard work of course

I took the Veritas prep course with Anthony Ritz at the Washington Hilton in DC. Prior to taking the class, I spent a few months studying on my own out of Princeton Review and a couple of other books/online resources. To be fair, I was not very diligent about studying and did not abide by a strict study schedule. I worked my way through the materials I did have and purchased the 7 pack of practice tests from Veritas. After studying off and on for a few months, but feeling like I had a good foundation, I took one of the Veritas practice tests and scored a disappointing 590. I soon realized that if I was going to commit to the process, I would need to buckle down and take a class that would give me a rigid structure and the test-taking strategy I was not gaining by studying on my own. Following the recommendation of a friend, I purchased the Veritas 6 week class.

Veritas' online resources are incredibly helpful and robust. There are skills, drills, and problems to accompany each in class lecture. Additionally, there are online lectures that follow the same material, so if you miss a class or want to review a portion that proved particularly challenging, these videos were great to watch over again.

Going into the class, I was particularly weak on quant and, while I did the verbal lessons and attended all classes, my focus was on practicing quant as I neared my test date. The previously purchased Veritas tests were helpful for this, as I could just take quant sections if I did not have enough time for a full practice test. Still, my advice to others is to take the full practice tests as many times as you possibly can. I ended up scoring as high as the 99th percentile in some of my practice tests where I only took the quant section. I think this led me to have a slightly inflated sense of confidence, as I did not achieve these scores in a full practice test but still held high expectations when the test date rolled around.

All in all, I am happy with my results and I know I would not have achieved my score had it not been for Anthony and the Veritas class. Of course, it's on you to keep up with the work and utilize the resources provided, but I think Veritas gave me all the tools I needed to do well!

...is Ravi's motto when he delivers the course! While of course he softens that to 'let's get you the score you need to get into the schools you want to get to', Ravi has a ruthless, no-nonsense approach that means he tells you what you need to know whether you like the answer or not (such as telling me, who was desperate to take the exam the day after the course finished, I would probably need 6-8 weeks to get a stellar score - not what I wanted to hear but I can't deny he was right!). Frankly, for GMAT, this is exactly what most of us need.

Secondly, from his pre-course email, detailing how the course will be structured, advice on how to get the most on it, how to prepare yourself for the exam and where to find the best practice materials and his opinion on the resources, right through to offering his support post-course on any exam tactics or preparation issues you may be having (for 'homework help' on GMAT topics you are still struggling with post-course Veritas offers a centralised, also excellent service), Ravi takes very seriously making sure that his students are getting what they need out of the course and are getting to where they need to be.

In class, it's a hefty dose of pragmatism all round to everyone who's tempted to bury themselves for minutes on end in a tough, meaty problem. All questions are timed, and it's not about 'how do we solve this particular especially hard problem' but instead 'what do we do to get you the highest score you can' (a very different question you'll have to take the course to understand) - totally practical and all about getting you to the score you need.

I'd add that Veritas' materials are nothing if not extensive and well tuned to the exam, and the post-course support in terms of homework, practice exams and supporting analysis thereof, etc. are all first-rate, but this is a review of the course itself, and it's really the instructor that makes the course in my opinion.

It's a pricy package, but if you're talking about what's going to get you to the highest score you can attain the most efficient way possible, this is the right choice. Of course I can only speak for the course I did, but, if all of Veritas' instructors are of Ravi's calibre, then they are worth the money you spend and I doubt I'd have got my one-take 760 score without them.

I took my first GMAT in April and scored in the 50th percentile. Immediately after exiting the test center I called my parents and told them, "This score suggests that I'm average. I am not average. I am retaking the test." I'd studied on my own for four months up to that point and it clearly wasn't good enough, so I started looking around for courses I could take on the weekends. I live about three hours from the closest large city, so I knew I would have some difficulties finding classes. On top of that, I work ~50-60HRS/week and had just started a new relationship. Basically, I had zero free time. Reading the reviews, Veritas Prep was significantly higher rated than just about any other prep course--why wouldn't you want to learn from the best of the best? Granted, you'll pay a small fortune for it, but sometimes you have to pay money to make money. Looking through the available courses, I realized I was doomed to take an online class. I am easily distracted by the Internet and have always preferred small classes where you can get to know the professor, but this was the only option I had and I sure as heck wasn't going to pass up a chance to improve my score and get into the program of my dreams. Luckily, the first day of class put me at ease. Ravi Sreerama is an absolute riot to learn from. Combine a military father with an outdated fraternity paddle and you've got Ravi. He's sitting on your shoulder reminding you, "I don't need you to love this answer. Just like it more than the others," and shaming you for not catching the trick. You will never truly understand shame until you answer a question incorrectly and see his name pop up on your chat bar. Not to mention, I had a stellar group of classmates who I've kept in touch with since the course. I did have to learn about diligence and not creating distractions for myself, but turns out that was a great experience. I've already recommended several friends to Veritas Prep.

Ravi was a fantastic teacher. He brought a great sense of humor to all of our classes, and simultaneously held my class to a high level of rigor in our work. This course was my first experience with an online class, and Ravi made me feel not only that people from all around the world were part of a shared experience but also that I could not hide behind my keyboard. I showed up to class prepared every day, and as a result, showed up prepared on test day. I would highly recommend taking Ravi's course, and the veritas system, if you are interested in being pushed to meet your full potential.

I chose Veritas based on other positive reviews, and particularly chose Ethan as an instructor because I read that he is very engaging and entertaining as a teacher. He has a strong connection to the material and is an excellent instructor on the fundamentals/logical thinking required to get a high GMAT score. Through a unique mix of pop-culture references and creative interpretations of math/writing principles, Ethan really emphasizes the key areas to focus your studies. His guidance on how logic plays a crucial role in test taking strategy really helped boost my confidence. I recommend that students definitely log in and attend his classes live.

I would highly recommend Veritas Prep. I took the immersion course and found it very worthwhile. The best part was my tutor - Ravi Sreerama. He gave me brilliant advice about different approaches for questions, about the right approach for structuring study sessions, and about how to be street smart in the test itself. He made a big impact and definitely contributed to my score of 710. The curriculum as well was very accessible and easy to understand if you're willing to put in the hours. The solution descriptions in the practise exams are a huge help for making big improvements to your understanding and approach.
Highly recommended!

Ravi truly changed the way that I think about the GMAT exam. This guy really knows his stuff and accordingly he will direct your thinking along a path to make the exam considerably less daunting and towards the score that you need.

I used to shiver at the thought of the GMAT, an exam that I postponed for over 3 years just because I deemed it to be too difficult. After hesitantly wising-up, I came across Ravi and decided to join his online classes. Boy was I glad to have done so! Ravi managed to show me exactly what the GMAT was testing, by aptly breaking down the sections and expanding upon the extent of what the GMAT actually examines. Whilst we would go through a number of questions to build a foundation, Ravi ensured that his students truly 'think like the testmaker' and go well beyond the core GMAT content. Ravi showed me exactly how one should go about studying for the GMAT, and that was exactly what the doctor ordered! He emphasised heavily on reflection and made sure that I learnt from all of my mistakes. He's a tough tutor but righteously so - the GMAT is not a forgiving exam! Accordingly, I made sure to always be on target and always give my best shot! Despite the vast number of students he teaches at any one time, Ravi made sure to give me one-on-one attention during and out of class. He has been an absolute rock during the difficult times and I owe it to him for all the success.

It is safe to say that I no longer fear the GMAT as I am now able to see through its 'trickery', because Ravi manages to show his students the pattern of questions that come up in the exam. As a result, Ravi opened my eyes not only to the GMAT itself, but to the way I approached learning and studying as a whole. These lessons will certainly echo well into the future, particularly when I start at B-school. Such teaching is one-in-a-million and I'm truly blessed to have been taught by Ravi Sreerama - a 5-star GMAT tutor!
