Initially, I had my doubts about the live online class format - it sounded like it would be dry and not as engaging. Then, I read the reviews on this site and decided to take a class with Ethan/Veritas -- one of the best decisions I've ever made!

The software used for the online classes is actually surprisingly good - in addition to great video quality and the ability to submit answers to problems in class, the chat function allows you to ask questions without feeling like you're bothering everyone (and you're able to have a bit of fun/humor with it).

But what really makes the class amazing is Ethan - he is hands-down the best test teacher I've ever had.

- He really knows his stuff. Not only did he score very highly on the test himself, but he's been teaching the class for a while and can even speak to overall patterns he's seen with all the students he's worked with over the years. He really makes the most of class time so you never feel like you've wasted time.

-He's patient. Ethan and his TA, Chris, were always extremely helpful both in class and responding to emails. They proactively and privately check in with you to see how you're doing and see if there are any gaps they can help you with.

-He's got all the tricks. Ethan really has a trick for every single type of problem, whether it's verbal or quant. Veritas already has a great methodology for each problem type that comes in the book set, but Ethan has even more materials that he developed himself to help you with things like pacing (uber important), strategy, and memorizing special cases.

-He's funny - it really helps! I found myself cracking up a couple of times during the actual GMAT thinking back to a couple of the pop culture references and jokes Ethan and our class had together.

I ended up increasing my score by nearly 100 after the class. I highly recommend taking the Veritas class with Ethan if you can.

I cannot say enough of Veritas. delightful to company to work with. Before i talk about the course, I wanted to thank the instructors who host the homework hours. A good resource to get some instant help.

I did the online course because i live in the Midwest and the nearest metro is 2 hours away. The system they use is great. It is a full on camera in a room with a smart board and an instructor. Initially, i signed up with a different company since I have used their books for a bit of self prep. However, after sampling the Veritas online software, i just had to go with them. If you want to do online and have live instructors- Veritas. Hands down!

Ravi was my instructor. There not enough words to describe how great he is! There is a reason why he is Veritas’ highest rated instructor. The guy has catchy phrases (Ravi-isms we called them) that he will utter throughout the class. MEMORIZE THEM and INTERNALIZE THEM. I remember taking the exam and going through every answer and just kept repeating the Ravi-isms to myself. Just a great way to help you go through the answers especially in the Verbal section.

When you purchase the full course, you get access to the On-Demand videos. They were amazing as well! I used to have them playing in the background at work after my course with Ravi was over. Great tool to freshen up on some of the concepts.

Overall, great course! Great instructor! Great experience!

I'd attempted to study for the GMAT on my own over summer 2015, but I wasn't receiving the scores I wanted - especially in the quant section. In summer 2016, I decided I would try a course. Since I live outside the US, I thought that an online course would be the best option, but I wanted something that would require the structure of an actual classroom; however, I was skeptical about the nature and personalisation of online instruction.

I chose Ravi's class (although it was at an inconvenient time for me) because of the incredibly positive reviews on GMAT Club and other sites. They almost seemed too good to be true - but they're not. Ravi is a charismatic instructor, and somehow manages to make you feel like you are in a classroom setting even when you're sitting in your living room.

What I found really surprising was the level of personal attention throughout the course. There were around 40 people in my class, but Ravi messaged me whenever I answered a particularly difficult problem right - and called me out when I got an especially easy one wrong. In the 12 classes I had with Ravi, he never once failed to answer a private chat.

On the instruction side, I thought his "Go through the door, not the drywall" approach was invaluable for the quant section, as were the Veritas skillbuilders. My scores in quant improved dramatically under his instruction. However, I was surprised to see that my scores in verbal (already in the 80th percentile) significantly improved throughout the course. His instruction (and catchphrases) and Veritas's strategies really helped me take it to the next level. I scored well above the 90th percentile in quant (and overall) on my first GMAT take.

I really couldn't have done it without Ravi, and would strongly recommend taking his course!

Ethan did a very good job! His E-File of original content was very helpful to me getting my 760. I took the Original Course with Anthony Ritz and got a 680. Then I took the course again with Ethan Todras-Whitehill and also took the GMAT economist after that. I saw that GMAT economist guaranteed a 90 point improvement - which was crazy to me, (it's very hard to reach 90% of the course as required but i did it - make sure you take the final exam or they don't let you advance past 80ish percent and they don't tell you.) With all of those courses I got the 710. Where I really jumped from 710 - 760 was doing hard problems on GMAT Club and then studying ethans data sufficieny the night before. I was very proud of this.

I had been studying for the GMAT for several months prior to taking the course. I think this is probably the best way to take this course. It's definitely fast paced and requires a firm handle on content (i.e. math concepts and grammar). It was effective because rather than focus on the minute details involved with solving the problems, the curriculum focused on the logical principles behind the problems.

As for the instructor, Ethan was great! His personable nature and creative teaching techniques made each three-hour class interesting without compromising learning. He taught me how to approach each question logically. This mentality helped me break my 680-level plateau to a great 720 score.

I took the six week online Live Courses with Ethan Todras-Whitehill. First off, the materials that Veritas uses are far superior to other vendors. Before signing up for Veritas, I had bought Kaplan books, and they were somewhat useful, but not great. I needed more, so that's when I came across Veritas. The app on the phone has been incredible, the manuals, the online problems, etc. etc. it has been great. All of this really helped me master the material. However, Ethan Todras-Whitehill is the reason I was able to score so highly. He helped me actually apply the material and learn how to think like the Testmaker. I can now immediately spot traps, but none of this would have happened without Ethan. I know this might sound cheesy or over the top, but it really is the truth that this course changed my life because it allowed me to score high enough to get into a Top B-School which will lead to doors wide open around the world.

I highly recommend this course. Ethan Todras-Whitehill was a superb instructor and explained all concepts in detail. He was energetic which helped keep students engaged. He and his assistant would check in with students to ensure each individual was keeping up with the material and would have answers to all questions. Ethan understood the importance of building a strong foundation before progressing to speed. From the very first practice GMAT, I improved my score by 160 points. The veritas study material was also very effective. I felt their practice tests were very similar to the actual tests, and they have more than enough tests for you to practice. The practice tests gave me a very good idea of where I stood and how I was progressing.

I had taken the GMAT before and hit a wall with my self studying. Ravi is THE BEST PROFESSOR and he really pushed me to beat the 700 mark and understanding that it is a concepts exam more than anything. Even through an online setting I felt as though I was receiving personal attention and help and Ravi made sure to keep us engaged for the 3 hour lessons. While researching which course to take I felt others set the level of difficulty based upon where the class is at and I did not want to be slowed down or unable to reach my full potential because of others in my class. Veritas pushes everyone and sets you up to higher level thinking and their methods and tricks really made all the difference. There were so many useful pieces of advice I wish I had known sooner in my education. I cannot recommend this course and Ravi more!

Had a great experience w/ Veritas Prep and ended up gaining more than 100 points on my score. Anthony was always available to help with specific questions, and helped to tailor the course to the needs of the class. Couldn't have asked for a better experience and was well worth the time and effort. I came in struggling with the quantitative section, but was able to make up significant ground while also gaining in the qualitative score. The online answer guides and ability to take more tests through the program were a huge help while I was reviewing and studying for the exam, and I've used the guide to help me better understand b-school options. Veritas put me in a good position to succeed, and I ended up doing better on the test than expected as a result of its methods.

This review is for: Veritas Prep Full Course
Location: Houston, TX USA
Taught by: Mark Robinson

I took the July-August 2016 Houston Full Course Veritas Prep Class taught by Mark Alan Robinson. I’ve got a few notes about Veritas Prep resources and then a review about Mark:

Veritas Prep
1. Lots of Material that at first feels overwhelming if, like me, all you know about the GMAT is how to spell it. That being said, the structure of the course material is excellent, and the way it’s broken down into pre-class skillbuilder work, lessons, and homework is great.

2. It is worth (if you have time) watching the videos for each lesson BEFORE class. You can watch them at 1.5x or 2x speed (I felt 2x was too much, but YMMV). This helps get a feel for the lesson, as well as pay more attention to what the instructor says. It’s not crucial, but it’s worth doing.

3. The feedback from the Veritas Prep team via email is quick and effective. They try to answer within 24 hours.

4. The homework solutions are also well done, with additional videos submitted of ways to tackle various problems really helpful (there’s more than one way to skin a cat, some are just more efficient than others). The homework not only shows you how to get to the actual answer, but gives some background on why the other answers are trap answers and why they are there.

5. The plethora of practice exams is way more than you need! There’s no shortage and it even gives you feedback on pacing and timing.

6. The online homework format helps a lot in that it gets you familiar with going through questions on a computer. It’s in your best interests to do this from the start; you wont have anything more than a marker and some laminated paper on the exam, so highlighting parts of a question are only going to set you up for a poor performance.

7. The “Think like the Testmaker” is useful for the higher-end problems and gets people into the mindset of “what are they really asking” and “why are you here”.

My one complaint with the Veritas Prep course is that they scheduled class Tuesdays and Thursdays. Ideally it would be Mondays and Thursdays as one day between lessons isnt sufficient. That being said, it’s likely so they can squeeze another class Monday-Wednesdays and run 2 classes concurrently. This might allow more students to take the class BUT it has an adverse effect on effective class preparation. It also means Mark doesn’t see his kids 4 nights a week…

Mark Alan Robinson
I feel like if Mark were a Yelp review on his own, he’d score a 4, with 80% giving 5 stars and 20% giving 1 star. He’s in a difficult position in that he has the goal of getting people from all backgrounds singing from the same hymn-sheet in the space of 6 weeks. He has to reteach math to engineers like me who just want to write equations all day (it’s math without doing math) and at the same time deal with folks who struggle to read and analyze long passages of text without falling asleep (I guess that also applies to me!).

However (transition word), if all I got in an instructor was a carbon copy of the online video I would have been disappointed. Mark throws his own teaching methods at each problem and tries to use different tools to tackle each area, be it comparing data sufficiency questions to 2 consultants or recipe making, or leveraging as much as we can from the answers to gauge what to look for in the question stem (Mark: What do you smell? Is it Oregano? Me: Mark, I don’t know, it’s 9 PM and I’m tired). Classes ran from 7-10 PM, and most of us are all working professionals so to keep us engaged for that long was a tough job, at which I feel he succeeded. He would even stick around after class (on at least one occasion for several hours) talking through questions and general business school thoughts with students. He cares, he wants you to succeed, and he goes well beyond what’s required.

I’ve already written the GMAT once since finishing the course and scored a 660. 8 Weeks ago this would have felt amazing, but after this course I actually feel disappointed (having written 5 practice tests that ranged from 660-720). I would never have been close to achieving this without Mark and the Veritas Prep Course, and to be clear I, the engineer, bombed the Quant, NOT the verbal, so that’s on me, not him.

One that thing, it’s worth signing up for test after 8 classes. Yes, it’s $250, but by class 8 you should have all the info you need. I regret not doing it, but there’s little pressure to succeed at this point and it will help get the jitters out by the time you try it again a few weeks later.

TL; DR: If you’re serious and are willing to put the work in, do it. Don’t waste this much $ for a subpar job. Sign up with Mark Alan Robinson and leverage as much online resources through Veritas Prep as you can. Oh, and RTFQ.
